We’re looking back through our time interoceters to the 2015 NFL Draft, making new (and sometimes not) picks for every team.
9. New York Giants – Landon Collins, Safety, Alabama
Original pick: Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami
Flowers has been (and will likely continue to be) an NFL starter, but Collins is one of the best safeties in the NFL. There’s no way New York can wait to take Collins in the second round, so while this pick changes, the player’s forever home doesn’t.
10. Los Angeles (St. Louis) Rams – Marcus Peters, CB, Washington
Original pick: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
Usually in a re-draft, teams don’t get screwed out of their first round pick until later in the round, but Gurley was obviously better than a No. 10 pick. The only reason he dropped this far in the original draft was his knee had just been surgically reconstructed. Peters comes off the board to the Rams here as the best corner in this draft and a position of need for a team that was bound to lose either Janoris Jenkins or Trumaine Johnson.
11. Minnesota Vikings – Stefon Diggs, WR, Maryland
Original pick: Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State
The Vikings have to be ecstatic they got both Waynes and Diggs out of this draft originally. Since neither guy will be available come the second round in our fake re-do, they have to pick one. I say they go with Diggs. The kid has yet to hit 1,000 yards, but he’s one of the best slot weapons in the league and has caught 148 passes and 11 touchdowns over the last two seasons. Eight of those came last year.
12. Cleveland Browns – Frank Clark, DE, Michigan
Original pick: Danny Shelton, DT, Washington
Frank Clark didn’t originally go in the first round because of “character concerns,” specifically a domestic violence arrest. Being good at football can make people forget a lot of things and Clark has been a premier pass rusher, allowing the Seattle Seahakws to move on from both Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril thanks to 19 sacks over the last two years. Shelton wasn’t a bust, as so many Browns first rounders have been, but he wasn’t worth the No. 12 pick and the team just shipped him to New England this offseason in exchange for a third rounder.
13. New Orleans Saints – Andrus Peat, OG, Stanford
Original pick: Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
Peat is our fourth player that is taken in his original spot and the sixth to go to the same team. Peat hasn’t received the elite grades that Scherff has at the position, he’s a key part of New Orleans’ offense as a run and pass blocker.
14. Miami Dolphins – Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin
Original pick: DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville
Parker has been a decent wideout and would get taken early in the second in this pretend do-over, but the Dolphins need a multi-talented back to compliment the offence. One, specifically, that head coach Adam Gase doesn’t want to trade away for peanuts. Gordon just posted his first 1,000 yard season and he added 476 yards receiving and scored 12 touchdowns.
15. Los Angeles (San Diego) Chargers – D.J. Humpries, OT, Florida
Original pick: Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin
With Gordon off the board, the Chargers need to address their offensive line (like pretty much every year). There were only two guys in this draft that got to keep their jobs as tackles and Humphries is the best, receiving a 74.9 grade from PFF in 2017 and holding down the left side of the Arizona line.
