The Champions Tour will make its way to Snoqualmie, Washington and The Club at Snoqualmie Ridge for the 2017 Boeing Classic this week. There will be $2.1 million in prize money on the line with the winner set to collect $310K. Bernhard Langer will look to successful defend his title after winning the Boeing Classic for the second time in 2016. It should be no surprise that Langer is the sports betting favorite to win this event once again in 2017.
Details
Event: Boeing Classic
Category: CHAMPIONS
Date: August 25-27
Venue: The Club at Snoqualmie Ridge, Snoqualmie, Washington
Langer proved to be the best man in a three-way playoff last year when he won this tournament for the second time. Langer made a four-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole to defeat Woody Austin and Kevin Sutherland in the playoff and become the oldest winner ever at the tournament. All eyes will be on Langer once again this week to see if he can successfully defend his title and continue his dominance on the Champions Tour.
Past Five Winners
2016: Bernhard Langer -13
2015: Billy Andrade -9
2014: Scott Dunlap -16
2013: John Riegger -15
2012: Jay Don Blake -10
What To Know About The Course
This tournament has the potential to be another absolute birdie-fest with the focus on Scrambling and Putting statistics once again. Driving Distance and Driving Accuracy aren’t necessarily as important this week as in others and it will be interesting to see how the winner fares in both of those categories. Consistency with the irons and the putter will be very important. There will be plenty of familiar faces teeing up at The Club course this week so experience should definitely count for something in the 2017 Boeing Classic.
The Field
Langer was an obvious pick to be the sports betting favorite to win this tournament once again but he will have some tough competition. Fred Couples is expected to be in the mix as well in his return to the Northwest while Scott McCarron has consistently been very good all year and has the skill set to contend again this week. Meanwhile, Kevin Sutherland and Kenny Perry have been on fire and should be in the mix as well. Brandt Jobe, Vijay Singh and Joe Durant are among the other notables projected to contend for the outright win on the Champions Tour this week.
Taking a look at the Charles Schwab Cup money list entering the week, Langer is currently in first place with just shy of 2.5 million in earnings. Scott McCarron is in second place at $1.7 million while Kenny Perry is in third at $1.353. That leaves Fred Couples and Brandt Jobe to round out the Top 5.
A Good Matchup To Bet: Fred Couples over Brandt Jobe
Couples has been absolutely dominant when he has teed it up this season with nine top-10 finishes in 10 starts on the Champions Tour. The Seattle-native should feel at home at The Club this week and there is no doubt he has the potential to contend for the outright win. With a pair of victories and seven top-five finishes already on his resume for 2017, we have no problem backing Couples over Jobe in the head-to-head sports betting matchup at the Boeing Classic this week.
Top-Five Pick: Bernhard Langer
While the value isn’t great it’s impossible to overlook Langer as a lock to finish in the top-five at the Boeing Classic this week. The defending champion has already won this event twice and posted an additional runner-up finish here over the past five years. He is on track for an unprecedented fourth straight Charles Schwab Cup and fifth overall. Langer should have a legitimate shot at winning this tournament. At the very least he should be able to deliver another top-five performance at this year’s Boeing Classic.
