With the FedEx Cup playoffs getting underway on the other side of the Atlantic, the European Tour will head north for the Made In Denmark tournament this week. The fourth edition of this event will take place on the Backtee New Course at the Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort in Aalborg, Denmark. Thomas Pieters will return to defend his title after winning this tournament in 2016. It should be no surprise that Pieters is listed as the sports betting favorite to win the Made In Denmark for the second year in a row. We won’t see a lot of big names at this even, leaving guys like Pieters and Soren Kjeldson as the headliners.
Details
Event: Made In Denmark
Category: European
Date: August 24-27
Venue: Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort, Aalborg, Denmark
Pieters leads a very moderate field for this week’s European Tour event, especially when compared to the star-studded field that will compete in The Northern Trust. While it is a relatively young event, the Made In Denmark has quickly become a very popular tournament with huge crowds in attendance for each of the first three editions.
Past Three Winners
2016: Thomas Pieters -17
2015: David Horsey -13
2014: Marc Warren -9
What To Know About The Course
We only have three years of information to analyze heading in to this tournament but the numbers that we do have suggest this year’s winner will need to excel with his putter. Driving Distance should also be important after the first five home last season all ranked in the top-23 in that category. The first two winners of the Made In Denmark ranked first and second in Par 5 Scoring while Pieters ranked 14th in that category when he won here last year. Pieters also led the field in Par 4 Scoring when he won the Made In Denmarka year ago.
The Field
Pieters is the sports betting favorite to win the Made In Denmark at +800 odds. If you want to bet on Pieters to repeat here, then make sure you shop around for the best value since some sportsbooks have him as low as +700 while others have him as high as +1000 odds to win outright. Soren Kjeldsen is next in line as a +1200 pick to win. Thorbjorn Olesen, Martin Kaymer and Bradley Dredge round out the top-five picks on the board according to the sports betting odds. Paul Dunne, Richard Sterne, Andrew Johnston and Rikard Karlberg are among the other notable names expected to contend at the Made In Denmark this week.
A Good Matchup To Bet: Soren Kjeldsen over Martin Kaymer
Kaymer was the sports betting favorite to win this tournament last year when he placed sixth in his debut. However, the circumstances were much different in 2016. Kaymer has missed three of his last six cuts and hasn’t posted a top-30 finish since April so he makes for a good bet to fade. Kjeldsen could be the perfect pick to match against Kaymer as he guns for the victory as a home favorite this week. Kjeldsen finished second here in 2015 and placed eighth here in 2016 so he should be a safe bet to pin against Kaymer in the head-to-head sports betting matchup.
Top-Five Pick: Thomas Pieters
It isn’t like we were about to reinvent the wheel at a tournament where Pieters is clearly the best bet to win on the board. The defending champ is the sports betting favorite to repeat here for a reason. While he wasn’t at his best at the PGA Championship, Pieters understands what it will take to win this week and should have no problem delivering. Even if he falls short of clinching a second consecutive outright victory, Pieters should be able to register another top-five finish at the Made In Denmark this week.
