2017 NASCAR Xfinity OneMain Financial 200 Preview

OneMain Financial 200

The NASCAR Xfinity Series will continue this week with the OneMain Financial 200 from the Dover International Speedway this Saturday. Ryan Blaney stole the headlines last week with his win in the Hisense 4K TV 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. However, this week’s race should have a much different feel based on both the track and the distance of the race. Eight different drivers have registered victories in the NASCAR Xfinity Series so far this season. It will be very interesting to see whether that trend continues at the Monster Mile this weekend.

Ironically, the OneMain Financial 200 has featured a revolving door of race winners dating back to Joey Logano’s back-to-back wins here in 2012 and 2013. Erik Jones is the defending champion heading in to this week’s Xfinity Series race after he finished first at this event a year ago.

Past Five Winners

2016: Erik Jones

2015: Chris Buescher

2014: Kyle Busch

2013: Joey Logano

2012: Joey Logano

What To Know About The Track

The Monster Mile is an extremely challenging course and the distance will make track position that much more important for this week’s Xfinity Series race. The high-banked corner produce a ton of speed but there isn’t much room to move around. That will make passing a lot more difficult for this week’s race. With so little time for drivers to make their move, it will be very important to establish position at the front early on and make sure that you don’t fall a lap behind. The Monster Mile is a very challenging course so experience should count for something again this weekend.

The Field

Jones returns as the defending champion at Dover this weekend but he will have some tough competition. Logano has been excellent at this track in the past and should present a legitimate challenge. Meanwhile, Larson has been incredibly consistent in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series so it will be interesting to see if he competes. Larson and Jones are the only drivers with multiple Xfinity Series wins this season. Kyle Busch is another driver that has had success at Dover in the past as he won this race back in 2014.

Taking a look at the updated standings, Elliot Sadler is currently in the top spot. The No. 1 car has done very well for himself this season on the Xfinity series as he has four top fives and eight top 10’s. He does have two DNF’s, but that hasn’t hurt him too much. He currently has 332 points in 10 starts. In second place is Justin Allgaier, who is six points back. He has one win – the only driver in the Top 5 who has registered a win – along with three Top 5’s and five Top 10’s. He’s followed by William Byron of JR Motorsports. As a matter of fact, JR Motorsports holds the top three spots in the standings. Byron has 275 points as he has two Top 5’s and five Top 10’s on the season. Daniel Hemric and Darrell Wallace Jr. round out the Top 5.

A Good Matchup To Bet: Erik jones over Justin Allgaier

Allgaier is right up there in terms of the Xfinity Series point leaders. However, if you want to pick a driver to bet against him for just one race it will be Jones this week. Jones has produced two wins and five top-five finishes in six Xfinity Series starts so far this season. He should be motivated to defend his title at Dover this week. Jones might not win this race, but he should definitely finish ahead of Allgaier in the OneMain Financial 200.

Top-Five Pick: Kyle Larson

The driver of the No. 55 car has been lights out both in the Monster Energy Cup Series and in his Xfinity Series starts. There is no reason to expect him to slow down this week especially considering he has had some success at this track in the past. Larson might not win this Saturday, but he should at the very least finish in the top-five in the OneMain Financial 200.
