The best golfers in the world are in action this week as the FedEx Cup tees off beginning with The Northern Trust. This year’s tournament will take place at a brand new venue in the Glen Oaks Club in Long Island, New York and will feature the first of a number of strong fields in action leading up to the Tour Championship to close out the season. We took the time to evaluate this week’s best fantasy options based on talent, form and DraftKings price tags. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings PGA fantasy competitions.
Jordan Spieth, $11,200
Spieth has been absolutely on fire this season and while he is coming off a disappointing outing at the PGA Championship we can definitely look past that. Spieth has delivered top-10 finishes in eight of his 19 starts this season and even last week he still managed to finish in the top-30 despite being off his game. Spieth has recorded victories in the Travelers Championship and at The Open Championship in his last four starts so his confidence should be high heading in to this week’s event. He is among the most expensive options on the board this week but we can easily make it work by complimenting Spieth with strong sleeper options.
Justin Thomas, $9,400
Thomas isn’t a sleeper option this week by any means but the fact that he is available at just $9.4K means that is a strong value pick in DraftKings competitions. Thomas dazzled at the PGA Championship and while some are predicting a letdown following his first major championship victory. However, we are predicting just the opposite as he has the talent, confidence and focus to build off the biggest win of his career. At $9.4K in DraftKings tournaments, it’s worth it to at least take a chance on Thomas and see what he can do this week.
Charley Hoffman, $7,900
Hoffman has played at a high level all season and while he disappointed at the PGA Championship he should be able to bounce back this week. Hoffman plays his best on driver heavy courses so Glen Oaks should be a good fit for him this week. He is still looking for his first win of the season after coming close on a number of occasions. Perhaps this is the week that Hoffman finally breaks through and captures that elusive victory.
Tony Finau, $7,300
Finau has recorded two top-10 results over his last four starts including a T-5th at the RBC Canadian Open. Over his last 12 rounds, Finau ranks among the best golfers on the PGA Tour in tee-to-green and he has also been pretty good putting of late as well. Considering his low price tag and high upside it makes sense to take a chance on Finau in DraftKings competitions this week.
Seung-Yui Noh, $7,100
Noh is one of the most interesting sleeper options on the board this week in large part because of his boom or bust potential. Noh is coming off consecutive missed cuts so his ownership should be fairly low. However, he has the potential to finish in the top-30 of this week’s field, which would be a massive reward on investment in him at such a low price tag. Noh will need to avoid his bogey issues but he is an excellent poa putter and he is excellent on approaches from 150-200 yards. It’s definitely a risk but the upside is there making Noh a sleeper pick in DraftKings formats this week.
Xander Schauffele, $7,000
The rookie Schauffele has put together an excellent debut season on the PGA Tour and we are banking on that continuing this week at The Northern Trust. Schauffele is coming off a missed cut, but the last time three times he missed a cut on the PGA Tour he bounced back with made cuts and put together some pretty decent results. With three picks under $7.5K, we can afford to spend big locking in Spieth and Thomas at the top of our DraftKings lineups this week. Let’s hope he can come through with a strong showing for us.
