2017 PGA Travelers Championship DFS Lineup

travelers championship

Following the U.S. Open, the PGA Tour heads to Connecticut for the Travelers Championship. The TPC River Highlands is known for having tough rough if players miss the fairway and it is imperative that players hit the green with their approach shots because it is difficult to scramble. If you thought it might be a quiet week as some players take the week off after the second golf major of the year, you’d be wrong. The field is loaded as many of golf’s biggest names will participate. That includes Jordan Spieth, who is the betting favorite to win the tournament, Jason Day and Rory McIlroy, who is our top play in daily fantasy for the Travelers Championship. With that in mind, let’s have a look at the lineup we went with for the Travelers Championship this week.

Rory McIlroy – $11,600

Sure, McIlroy missed the cut at the U.S. Open, a tournament in which he thought he would play well in due to his driver. And sure, McIlroy has never played at TPC River Highlands before. But he hadn’t played since the Players Championship because of a rib injury, and it was always going to be tough for McIlroy to come back at a place like Erin Hills. TPC River Highlands is better for a comeback and McIlroy should lead your DraftKings team.

Justin Thomas – $10,2000

Thomas set the golf world on fire with his 63 on Saturday at the U.S. Open, which set a record for the lowest-score-to-par at that tournament, but then he went backwards with a 75 in the fourth round in which it looked like nerves got to the 24-year-old. Still, Thomas finished T-3 in this tournament and shot a 62 in the final round, so he knows how to go low at TPC River Highlands.

Paul Casey – $9,700

Casey was tied for the lead at Erin Hills at the 36-hole mark, but a 75-74 weekend put the Englishman in sole possession of 26th place when it was all said and done. He has played in this tournament just once, but Casey lost to Bubba Watson on the second playoff hole in 2015. Casey has four top-10s this season, and he could be in line for just his second PGA Tour win as he continues his renaissance.

Brandt Snedeker – $9,400

Snedeker finished T-9 at the U.S. Open, where he shot 70-69-70-71, so he was pretty consistent throughout the tournament. Snedeker also likes TPC River Highlands a lot as he has finished in the top 25 in all three starts here, including a T-10 in 2015, his last appearance in Connecticut.

Tony Finau – $8,700

Finau didn’t play at the U.S. Open, but that might be a good thing for him as Finau has played in 19 tournaments during this season, so the time off should be good for him, both physically and mentally. Finau has four top-10s this season and has been close to his second PGA tour win on a couple occasions, and he has finished T-25 in both trips to the Travelers in the past.

Graham DeLaet – $7,100

If you need a value pick, take a look at the Canadian, who also sat out of the U.S. Open, but he finished T-10 in his last start at the Memorial. DeLaet is also very familiar with TPC River Highlands, which he had played six years running before last year, and he had third and fourth-place finishes here since 2013. If DeLaet is going to get his first PGA Tour win, this tournament is as good a tournament as any to do it. Overall, we aren’t fully expecting the win here but a solid finish would do great for our DFS team. At $7,100, he looks like a strong value play in this particular spot this week.
