Some of the best golfers in the world will make the trip to Akron, Ohio and the Firestone Country Club for this week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. It will mark the final stop before the US PGA Championship next week. With so many big names set to compete, we broke down the field based on talent, current form, course form and DraftKings price tags in order to build the perfect fantasy roster. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings PGA fantasy competitions.
Justin Rose, $9,900
Rose might be winless since the Olympics but he has come close a number of times and we definitely like his chances this week. Rose has recorded five top-five finishes since that Olympics win. He has also been excellent in past tournaments at this course with four top-five finishes in 11 starts at Firestone, including three since 2012. Rose will contend for the outright win this week and even if he falls short he should deliver another strong result in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
Jason Day, $9,400
Day has really struggled this season but his poor performance so far this season could help make him a strong value pick for this week’s tournament. Day is listed at just $9.4K in DraftKings formats. That is pretty good value for a former world No. 1 that has posted four top-25 finishes at this event including a personal-best T-3rd here last year. Day still leads the PGA Tour in strokes gained; around-the-green and he has the skill set to put together a strong performance this week. At just $9.4K, we are willing to take a chance on Day in DraftKings competitions.
Adam Scott, $8,800
Scott has been relatively quiet this season but he has still produced four top-10 finishes and he has a good history at this course. Scott has five top-20 finishes at Firestone since 2010, including a victory here in 2011. Currently 15th in adjusted scoring, Scott is another strong value pick at just under $9K in this week’s DraftKings competitions.
Zach Johnson, $8,000
The 12-time PGA Tour winner is listed at just $8K for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational so we decided to give him a chance this week. Inconsistent putting has hurt him so far this season but he registered a T-14th at Royal Birkdale last week and now gets a chance to build on his strong resume at Firestone where he has four top-10 finishes and nine top-25 results in 13 starts.
Johnson has yet to pick up a win on the season but he does have three Top 10’s on the year. He is currently in 82nd place in terms of the 2017 FedEx Cup standings.
Kevin Chappell, $7,500
Chappell turned heads when he registered a T-3rd at Firestone last year. He is a long hitter that should have no problem driving the ball in his return here this year. Chappell is coming off a T-8th at the RBC Canadian Open last week so he should be feeling confident heading in to the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. At just $7.5K, Chappell is an excellent value pick.
Chappell is ranked 30th in terms of the FedEx Cup standings. On the season, he has one win and four Top 10’s on the season.
Adam Hadwin, $6,400
With just $6.4K left over to address the final position on our roster, we will turn to a familiar face in Hadwin. The Canadian is in an absolutely awful stretch with three straight missed cuts including last week as a fan favorite at Glen Abbey. Hadwin is more than capable of breaking out of that funk this week so we are going to take a shot on him with the hope that he can end his slide in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational this week. At such a low price tag, Hadwin is worth the risk in this week’s DraftKings competitions.
Hadwin might be low on the list in terms of DFS but he’s actually been a pretty good player this year. He’s currently in 13th place in the FedEx Cup standings. He has one win and four Top 10’s, so hopefully he does something productive this week.
