Justin Thomas joined Sergio Garcia, Brooks Koepka and Jordan Spieth as an impressive group of major championship winners for the 2017 season when he won the PGA Championship. With no more majors left, the focus now shifts to the FedEx Cup playoffs. Those on the outside looking in will get one more opportunity to clinch their spot in the playoff with a victory at the Wyndham Championship this week. We took that motivation in to consideration when evaluating the golfers in this week’s field for DraftKings fantasy competitions consideration. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings PGA fantasy competitions.
Jason Dufner, $10,400
With Henrik Stenson and Kevin Kisner both listed at over $11K in DraftKings competitions, we prefer banking on a golfer that is just as capable to contend this week in Dufner. This year’s winner of the Memorial Tournament struggled at the PGA Championship but he did place 14th at The Open and his game is suited to this tournament. Dufner might not get the same amount of attention as Stenson and Kisner this week. That would make him an even better DraftKings option for the Wyndham Championship. It’s a big price tag but we’re looking for Dufner to have a big showing this week, and hopefully a win for us at the Wyndham.
Shane Lowry, $8,500
Lowry has paired a couple of missed cuts with a pair of finishes outside of the top-40 over the course of his last four starts. However, he has also posted five top-25 finishes so far this season and he will be motivated to produce a strong result this week. At $8.5K, Lowry’s price tag is just low enough to make him worth taking a chance on at the Wyndham Championship.
Kevin Streelman, $8,300
Streelman ranks in the top-20 in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee, Strokes Gained: Approach, Par 4 Scoring and Bogey Avoidance so he makes for a strong pick this week at the Sedgefield Country Club. He has also looked particularly good of late with top-30 finishes in five of his last six starts including a 13th-place finish at the Memorial and an eighth place finish at the Travelers Championship. At $8.3K, Streelman is an excellent option in DraftKings competitions this week.
Chad Campbell, $7,900
Campbell has the potential to perform at a high level in another relatively weak field this week. At just under $8K, his price tag is good enough to take a chance on him. Campbell has made seven of his last eight cuts and has posted five top-25 finishes over that span. He is excellent value this week as a golfer whose game is a good fit at Sedgefield, where he will have the potential to surprise this week.
Kevin Na, $7,500
Considering his price tag in a relatively weak field for the Wyndham Championship, Na might be one of the best value picks on the board this week. Na missed the cut here in 2008 but he placed T-18th here in 2010 and T-10th here last season in two tournaments that also took place at Sedgefield. Na ranks fourth in the field in Strokes Gained: Approach and 11th in Greens in Regulation from 150-175 yards so the numbers support the prediction that he will deliver another strong performance this week. At such a low price tag, we can’t overlook Na in DraftKings competitions.
Smylie Kaufman, $7,400
Kaufman withdrew from the Barracuda Championship but he placed in the top-27 in each of his previous two starts and should be well rested for the Wyndham Championship this week. The fact that he currently sits outside of the playoffs should help ramp up the urgency and focus this week as he looks to make his move with a win this week. The numbers indicate Kaufman should be a contender at Sedgefield this week. At just $7.4K, Kaufman is another excellent value option in DraftKings competitions this week. We’re not looking for him to win the 2017 Wyndham Championship, although that would be nice. What we’re looking for him is to make the cut and hopefully push for a Top 25 finish for us.
