The 2018 College World Series right around the corner. The tournament is set and we’re just about to start with the regional action. Heading into the tournament, everyone is wondering if Florida can repeat or whether Oregon State can power their way through. Minnesota won the Big Ten, but the Big Ten hasn’t done so well at the CWS. And can any mid-majors crash the party?
There will be anywhere from 112 to 136 games before we whittle down the field for the College World Series (final eight spots). However, taking a closer look at the betting lines courtesy of BetDSI, they suggest that there’s really only a handful of teams that are expected to be in contention for the crown.
Oregon State is the current favorite at +200. The Beavers had an incredible team last year and were knocked out by LSU. They’ll see them again in the Corvallis Regional and having home-field advantage should help their cause.
Florida is next in line at +500 as they are the defending champs. They were nothing short of magical last season. They’ll host the Gainesville Regional and it would be shocking if they didn’t win it. The issue is they lost six of their last seven, which is a bit of a concern.
Arkansas is posted up at +500 and while they’re a serious contender, the concern is how they play away from home. They only lost three times at Baum Stadium but were 6-13 on the road. The good news is they’ll host their regional and won’t have to play away until the College World Series.
2018 College Baseball World Series Odds: Arkansas vs. Oregon State
Texas Tech is the top representative from the Big 12 and they’re at +800 to win it. They might have their hands full with a tricky New Mexico State team in the Lubbock Regional. Both teams were top-four in the nation as Texas Tech averaged 8.4 runs per game while New Mexico State was at 8.2
The only other teams inside of 10/1 are North Carolina (+900) and Tennessee Tech (+900).
