The PGA Tour Champions returns after a week off with the Insperity Invitational. John Daly is the defending champion at this event, which is played at the Woodlands Country Club in Texas. Which players are the best bets for this tournament as the players prepare for the Regions Tradition in two weeks? Odds are courtesy of BetDSI Sportsbook.
Bernhard Langer (+500) – Langer is a best bet to win anytime he tees it up on the Champions Tour. He won this tournament in 2007 and 2008, and then for the third time in 2014. He finished T-18 here last year and he has yet to win on the PGA Tour Champions in 2018, which means Langer is just about due for a victory. Langer has finished T-2 in his last two starts, and he had a T-9 prior to that, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he got his first win this weekend.
Jerry Kelly (+850) – Kelly won in January in Hawaii, and he has posted three top-10s since then, including a T-5 at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf with partner Steve Stricker. Kelly played with Stricker on the PGA Tour in New Orleans, where they missed the cut, so Kelly got a little more rest before teeing it up in Texas.
Miguel Angel Jimenez (+1600) – Jimenez was paired with Jose Maria Olazabal at the Bass Pro Shops event and finished tied for third. It was his third top-ten of the season, and Jimenez finished T-7 here last year. If Jimenez wants to get back into contention in a singles event, he is going to have to be a little bit better off the tee. He is 45th in driving accuracy and if he can find the fairway more often, Jimenez can get closer to the flag with his approaches and let his brilliant putting do the talking.
Scott McCarron (+2000) – McCarron came in T-9 at the Bass Pro Shops event with Brandt Jobe, and it was his fourth top-ten of the season. McCarron definitely isn’t plating as well as he did in 2017, when he had a career year. He isn’t that far off as McCarron’s stats are still very good, outside of his putting. He is 41st on the PGA Tour Champions in putting average and that is enough to keep him away from a win. McCarron finished T-18 here last year.
John Daly (+4000) – Why not spend a little on the defending champion? Daly finished T-5 at the Bass Pro Shops tournament with Michael Allen and he now has three top-ten finishes on the year. Daly can still drive it far, leading the PGA Tour Champions in driving distance, but he is 64th in driving accuracy. He is also only 50th in putting, and that isn’t a good recipe for wins. However, all Daly needs is to put it together for a week like he did here in 2017. The course also sets up well for his driving, which could give him more chances than the rest of the field.
