Chris Peterson certainly has things rolling up in Seattle, but with increased success, comes bigger expectations – and therefore higher win totals. The Huskies won 22 games over the past two seasons and posted back-to-back 10-win seasons for the fourth time in school history. Unfortunately Washington has never posted double digit wins in three straight years and despite the recent success that’s been enjoyed in Seattle, that streak may continue through 2018.

What Happened Last Year
Washington cruised to a 6-0 start before a stunning loss at Arizona State where seemingly nothing went right offensively. The Huskies went on to finish 10-2 in the regular season before losing to Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl. Early in the season, Washington looked to be a lock for the College Football Playoff and even after the upset against ASU, the Huskies had a chance. However, a few weeks later the Huskies fell short at Stanford and without a chance to get a quality win against USC in the Pac-12 Championship Game, the Huskies – and the Pac-12 – were shut out of the playoffs.
What Will Change This Year
The good news is we will learn a lot about the Huskies right out of the gate as they travel to Atlanta to face Auburn in week one. The bad news is the Huskies face Auburn in week one. A season ago, Washington played Rutgers, Montana and Fresno State in non-conference play. This season the Huskies face Auburn, North Dakota and BYU. Washington also has tough road games at Utah, UCLA, Oregon and Washington State. While playmaker extraordinairre Dante Pettis has moved on to the NFL, the Huskies will still have the dynamic tandem of Jake Browning and Myles Gaskin, who is 51 yards away from becoming the school’s all-time leading rusher.
Vita Vea will be a big loss on the defense, but overall the unit returns a healthy does of starters and should be in good shape. There is certainly enough talent to put together a run in 2018, however the schedule will pose some threats.

Outlook & Prediction
The Huskies have won more than 10 games just once since 2001. Washington did win exactly 10 games a season ago, but no one likes a push. If Washington beats Auburn, then the over is the easy play. However, if Auburn wins the game – which is in Atlanta and will feel like an Auburn home game – then Washington doesn’t have much room for error. With a tough schedule and a history that doesn’t lend itself to a ton of double-digit win seasons, the play here seems to be betting the under.
