How it happened

Not 24 hours after throwing 23 pitches in an inning-plus in Game 2, and not even 24 hours since Arkansas dropped the ball and championship, the freshman Abel took to the mound again and didn’t leave.

Abel went the distance allowing only four Arkansas batters to reach base going throwing nine shutout innings and allowing only two hits, a College World Series record, and two walks while striking out 10 batters.

Overall, Abel threw 21 innings in the College World Series with a 0.86 ERA while allowing seven hits, five walks and striking out 23.

The Beavers’ bats gave him all the run support he needed in the first inning with Adley Rutschman driving in a run and a throwing error allowing another to score. Rutschman came up big again in the third with another RBI single as he went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Zak Taylor went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Michael Gretler  went 0-for-2 with a SAC fly RBI.

Isaiah Campbell took the mound for Arkansas and lasted two innings and gave up two runs, on two hits and a walk while striking out two.

Grant Koch went 1-for-3 with a double for the Razorbacks.

Oregon State redeemed

After getting to the College World Series a year ago as the No. 1 seed, the Beavers fell flat when they arrived to Omaha as they failed to make the final series.

Oregon State faced elimination six times in the College World Series this time around and came up with big plays, and a little bit of luck, in order to claim the program’s third national title.
