2018 EPGA Commercial Bank Qatar Masters Betting Preview

Thorbjorn Olesen

The European Tour returns to Doha, Qatar and the Doha Golf Club for the 21st edition of the Qatar Masters this week. While there are some familiar names on hand, there is no denying that this year’s installment of the Qatar Masters features a much weaker field than most are used to seeing play at this event. With such a weak renewal, the field appears to be wide-open heading in to this week’s tournament. Here is a look at some of the best bets to win the Qatar Masters.

Event Details

Event: Commercial Bank Qatar Masters

Category: European

Date: February 22-25th, 2018

Location: Doha Golf Club, Doha, Qatar

Favorites

Thorbjorn Olesen +1600 (odds courtesy of BetDSI Sportsbook)

Olesen is coming off a strong performance in the World Super 6 Perth. He should have an opportunity to shine as an obvious sports betting favorite among a relatively weak field. Olesen was third here in 2014 and was the runner-up in this tournament in 2016, so he has proven that he can perform at a high level at this venue. With one of the most complete skill sets among those competing this week, Olesen is an obvious betting favorite to win the Qatar Masters this week.

Chris Wood +2000

Wood picked up his first European Tour win at this venue and it wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone if he contends for the outright win again this week. While he is coming off a miserable 2017 in which he recorded just three top-10 finishes, this could be the perfect opportunity for him to bounce back and start 2018 on the right note. Wood has finished in the top-20 three times since he won this event in 2013. Look for him to deliver another strong finish in Qatar this week.

Andy Sullivan +2000

Sullivan is another golfer that struggled last year but has looked good enough in recent appearances that we can take him with confidence this week. The Englishman has done well here in the past including a T-9th in 2013 and two more top-30 finishes in his last two starts here. After hitting over 80-percent of his greens in regulation last week, Sullivan should be able to carry the momentum from his strong performance over in to this week’s event.

Horse For The Course

Eddie Pepperell +6600

Pepperell finished 2017 on a high note and his form at this tournament makes him a sneaky good horse for the course. Pepperell finished in fourth place here two years ago and he has tweeted this week about how well he was hitting the ball on the range. While he took the last couple of months off, that might actually help as he should be fresh for this week’s tournament. At +6600 odds to win outright, it might be worth sprinkling some money on Pepperell this week.

Dark Horse Sleeper

Robert Karlsson +17500

It has certainly been a while since Karlsson won here. That said, it’s still worth noting that he won this event back in 2010. Karlsson isn’t done either as he finished third at the British Masters in October and T-32nd in Abu Dhabi last month. While he is definitely a long shot, his incredible odds might make it worth sprinkling a mall amount of money on him as a dark horse sleeper pick to win this year’s Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
