205 Live Recap: Tozawa Gets His Final Lesson

This week on 205 Live, WWE continues to build the feuds that the WWE Universe has seen over the past month or so. Instead of all in-ring action, there is a promo segment to try and freshen things up among a pair of good matchups. Mustafa Ali tries to pick up a win over Tony Nese after unfairly losing to him two weeks ago, and Akira Tozawa’s feud with The Brian Kendrick in the main event.

Opening Segment
In his home country of England, Gentleman Jack Gallagher makes his way to the ring to start the show. On this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Gallagher was defeated by TJ Perkins and assaulted by his opponent after their match. Gallagher could have been injured from a kneebar, but he was saved from further harm by Austin Aries. In a gesture of thanks, Gallagher invites Aries to the ring.

Gallagher grabs two pints of beer to toast Aries, and long with the WWE Universe, they start singing “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” They can barely get through the first few measures of the song when Neville interrupts them. They start talking back and forth until the King of the Cruiserweights threatens that this will be Aries’ last appearance on 205 Live. While Neville says this, TJP appears from out of nowhere to attack Aries’ knee from behind.

All four men start brawling all around and through the ring until Austin Aries is barely able to fend off the Cruiserweight Champion. With Neville and TJP retreating, Aries and Gallagher finally get to drink their pints of beer in celebration.

Tony Nese vs. Mustafa Ali
A couple weeks ago, Tony Nese and Mustafa Ali competed in singles action and while Ali lost, it was not because of Nese. Ali seemed to have his match won, but Drew Gulak (an on-and-off ally to Nese) pulled Nese out of the ring and forced the disqualification. Gulak has been trying to get Ali to stop utilizing high-flying and high-risk moves and he proved his point by defeating Ali in singles action last week.

Nese has control for most of the match, but a huge Tornado DDT sets Ali up perfectly for the win. After dragging Nese into position following the DDT, Ali hits a picture-perfect inverted 450 Splash to bounce back from his loss last week.

Video Package
After breaking up with Alicia Fox several months ago, it seemed like Cedric Alexander was on track to becoming the next WWE Cruiserweight Champion. However, Alexander got injured and Neville would end up continuing his reign as the King of the Cruiserweights. This week, we finally see a video package to promote the return of Alexander, who has done nothing but wow the WWE Universe over the last year. If Austin Aries fails to capture the Cruiserweight Championship from Neville in the upcoming weeks, perhaps Alexander could insert himself into the title picture when he returns.

Akira Tozawa vs. The Brian Kendrick
This feud has got to end at some point. Akira Tozawa showed up to 205 Live three months ago (yes, it has been that long) and he decided to compete in WWE on his own instead of being under the mentorship of Brian Kendrick. Kendrick took offense and would forcefully teach Tozawa lessons over the subsequent weeks. About a month ago, Tozawa would start to get the edge over Kendrick by using Kendrick’s lessons against him. Last week in an interview with Corey Graves, Kendrick admitted that his plan backfired on him, and then he immediately got kicked in the face Tozawa.

Brian Kendrick gets very close to winning on several occasions. He locks in the Captain’s Hook submission multiple times, but every time, Tozawa manages to find a way to escape. Kendrick then tries the Sliced Bread No. 2, but he doesn’t get all of it. Tozawa then manages to roll up Kendrick and get the surprise victory. Winner: Akira Tozawa

Immediately after his loss, Brian Kendrick assaults Tozawa. After slamming Tozawa into the steel steps several times, Kendrick sandwiches him in between the steps and stomps his contraption. The “man with a plan” then grabs a microphone to give Tozawa his final lesson, “Nobody messes with The Brian Kendrick.”
