7 Betting Picks For The 2018 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play

PGA Tour

The PGA Tour shifts to Austin, Texas and the Austin Country Club for the World Golf Championship-Dell Technologies Match Play event this week. With so many big names dominating at this event in past years, all eyes will be on Austin as the countdown to The Masters continues. Dustin Johnson is the defending champion at this tournament and he is among the sports betting favorites to win it again this year along with 2015 winner Rory McIlroy and 2016 winner Jason Day. The last man standing in each of the last few editions of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play has ranked among golf’s elite. Will that be the case again in 2018? Here is a look at some of the best bets for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. Odds courtesy of BetDSI Sportsbook.

Event Details

Event: WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play

Category: PGA

Date: March 21st-25th, 2018

Location: Austin Country Club, Austin, Texas

Past Five Winners

2017: Dustin Johnson
2016: Jason Day
2015: Rory McIlroy
2014: Jason Day
2013: Matt Kuchar

Rory McIlroy +800

McIlroy is the sports betting favorite to win this event and rightfully so coming off an excellent performance winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational in spectacular fashion. McIlroy has the talent to contend in every start he makes and he has proven he can win this tournament before having won the 2015 edition of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. After an unlucky performance here last year, McIlroy should be locked in as a top contender this week.

Dustin Johnson +1000

D.J. is the defending champion and the second betting favorite for this week’s WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. While his tournament record here is poor overall, it’s hard to argue against what he did here a year ago when he won outright. He might not be in the same form he was in heading in to this event last year but D.J. should once again be in the mix among the top contenders this week.

Justin Thomas +1200

Thomas has yet to break through at this tournament but perhaps the third time will be the charm. Thomas has just one match play win here and five losses. However, he is among the most talented golfers in the field so perhaps that past experience pays off this time around.

Jon Rahm +1400

Rahm hasn’t exactly been at his best since winning the CareerBuilder Challenge but he came very close to winning this event a year ago and he is very capable of contending this week. At +1400 odds, Rahm is available at decent enough odds that he might be worth taking a chance on this week.

Jason Day +1600

The 2016 winner of this event didn’t have his best week at Bay Hill at the Arnold Palmer Invitational but he tends to play well at the same events. That was the case when he won again at Torrey Pines earlier in the year so he shouldn’t be overlooked. Day has the talent and at decent odds he might be worth risking a small amount of money on to win this year’s WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

Jordan Spieth +2000

Spieth isn’t exactly in form heading in to this event and his tournament record here isn’t exactly stellar but it’s not like we can just completely write him off at decent odds to win the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play outright. Spieth is a Dallas resident and will once again be one of the most talented players in this week’s field so he could be another decent value betting option to win outright.

Rafa Cabrera Bello +6000

While he isn’t among the sports betting favorites to win this event, Cabrera Bello could be a sneaky good sleeper pick for this week’s WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. Cabrera Bello is in excellent form and he has fared well at this course in the past. After finishing third in his last start in the WGC-Mexico Championship, could RBC make another run in Austin? At +6000 odds to win outright, Cabrera Bello might be worth taking a chance on to win the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play this week.
