8 Best Bets For The 2018 PGA Travelers Championship

PGA

Brooks Koepka stole the spotlight this past weekend when he became the first repeat winner at the U.S. Open in 29 years. With the memory of his ridiculous final round still fresh in the minds of golf fans, the focus will shift to the next PGA Tour event with the Travelers Championship set to begin on Thursday morning. The field won’t be nearly as strong at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut this week. However, there will be a number of big names competing including Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy and Koepka. We broke down the list of golfers that will compete to deliver a list of the eight best betting options available. Here is a look at the best bets for the Travelers Championship this week. Odds are courtesy of BetDSI

Brooks Koepka +1200

Koepka is absolutely on fire following his incredible finish to the U.S. Open. Can he carry over the momentum from that win and build on it this week? Or is that too much to ask? Koepka didn’t play last year after winning his first major but he is expected to play this week. The two-time U.S. Open champion placed ninth here in 2016. Perhaps he builds on that performance and contends for the outright win this week.

Justin Thomas +1200

Thomas never really found his groove last week at Shinnecock but there is reason to believe he can bounce back this week. He has finished in the top-25 in each of his last four starts including two finishes in the top-11. Plus, he placed third at this tournament in 2016. Thomas has all of the tools to succeed in Cromwell, which is the reason he is a co-favorite to win this week.

Rory McIlroy +1200

The final of the three sports betting favorites to win this tournament is McIlroy, who struggled mightily in the conditions during the opening round of the U.S. Open but looked good the rest of the way. McIlroy should get better weather for the opening round in Connecticut this week and will need to take advantage in order to contend. Consistency will be the key. McIlroy placed 17th in his debut here last year but we expect a better result from him this time around.

Jordan Spieth +1400

The defending champion Spieth isn’t listed among the three outright favorites to win this event but that makes him an even better value this week. Spieth couldn’t rally back to win at Shinnecock but he left the tournament on a strong enough note to make him an intriguing play at the Travelers Championship. Spieth has never successfully defended a title but that could change with a strong performance this week. At +1400 odds, Spieth should be a popular betting pick.

Patrick Reed +1600

Speaking of a popular option for this week, Reed should definitely be in the mix as a true contender at the Travelers Championship. Reed is coming off an outstanding finish at the U.S. Open where he fired a 68 in the final round to place fourth. That was his third top-10 finish in his last five starts overall. Reed has the skill set to deliver another strong performance this week. Perhaps this is the tournament in which he finally breaks through and picks up an outright win.

Daniel Berger +2500

Berger had struggled mightily heading in to last week’s tournament with two missed cuts and two finishes outside of the top-50 in his previous four starts. However, he bounced back in a major way last week and placed sixth at the U.S. Open. That should give him some confidence heading in to this week’s event. If Berger could build on that result, he could be a sneaky good value contender to win the Travelers Championship at +2500 odds.

Bubba Watson +3400

If you are looking for a good sleeper pick to win the Travelers Championship, Watson might be the best option on the board at +3400 odds. Watson is a two-time champion at this course and should be expected to contend every single time he tees off at TPC River Highlands. Accuracy off the tee will be important, but not as important as accuracy from the fairway and putting statistics. Watson has the tools to make a strong run and at such a good price he is difficult to overlook.

Russell Henley +7000

The fact that Henley is listed at almost double the odds that Watson is listed at makes him an intriguing play this week. Henley has looked good over the past couple of months and he had a decent showing at the U.S. Open last week. If you are looking for a sneaky value pick at long odds, Henley should be on your radar as a legitimate sleeper to win the Travelers Championship this week.
