The best golfers in the world will make their way to St. Louis, Missouri and the Bellerive Country Club for the final major of the season — the PGA Championship. Widely considered the most competitive of the four major championship events, we took the time to break down the field and figure out the best betting options on the board. Here is a look at the eight best bets to win this weekend’s PGA Championship.
Event Details
Event: PGA Championship
Category: PGA
Date: August 8-11, 2018
Location: Bellerive Golf Course, St. Louis, Missouri
Last Five Winners
2017: Justin Thomas
2016: Jimmy Walker
2015: Jason Day
2014: Rory McIlroy
2013: Jason Dufner
Dustin Johnson +800
D.J. continued his hot streak when he finished third at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and now carries the distinction of being the betting favorite as he looks to return to the win column. Johnson has won twice in his last five starts and there is no doubt he is the golfer to beat this week. After a change of putter worked in his favor last week, there are no major concerns for Johnson heading in to this event. It’s just a matter if he can put it all together for four days.
Rory McIlroy +1200
McIlroy struggled with his wedges and faltered on Sunday at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. However, he putted well at Firestone and, if he can figure it out his approach in Missouri, he should be in the mix of contenders at the PGA Championship. McIlroy has been playing at a high level overall of late, so he should be a decent betting option at +1200 odds to win it all.
Justin Thomas +1400
Thomas is coming off a big win at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. The fact that he has won back-to-back tournaments before will ease some concern over whether he can do it again this week. Also, it helps that he won the event last year, so we know he can win a major.
Jordan Spieth +2000
Spieth hasn’t won since last year’s Open Championship victory, but it’s impossible to deny his potential as a decent value pick this week. Spieth has shown flashes but rarely for four rounds. That lack of consistency has been a major issue for bettors picking him to win. A Top 10 bet might be wiser.
Brooks Koepka +2000
Speaking of decent value, Koepka could be an outstanding betting option this week. The American has played in 16 majors since the start of 2014. Over that span, he has registered two major wins, four more top-six finishes and another six results of T-21st or better.
Tiger Woods +2800
Tiger is still searching for that elusive win but the fact that he has come close in recent events makes him a very intriguing pick at Bellerive. He registered consecutive top-six finishes at the Quicken Loans National and The Open, before finishing 31st at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. He struggled in the final two rounds at Firestone but that was only after recording a 66 and a 68 on Thursday and Friday, respectively. Is this the week Tiger puts together a solid four consecutive rounds and contends for the outright win? At +2800 odds, he could be worth a flier.
Bryson DeChambeau +6600
Taking a deeper dive in to the best sleeper value options this week, DeChambeau’s name leaps off the board at ridiculous +6600 odds. He won the long-drive title at the PGA Championship on Tuesday, so he’s started the week right. It helps that Tiger was loud and vociferous about including DeChambeau in this year’s Ryder Cup, so his confidence should be sky high.
Thorbjorn Olesen +7000
Olesen is another excellent flier at +7000 odds to win this event. He finished last week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on fire after shooting a 64 on Sunday to place third overall. That was his second consecutive top-12 finish after he placed 12th at The Open. If you don’t think he can pull off the win, a Top 5 or Top 10 could also be a smart value play.
