USA Minicamp
Sheridan shared his observations from Las Vegas, where he was stationed for Team USA’s two-day minicamp. The squad prepared this week for the 2019 World Cup in China and 2020 Olympics in Japan.
The conversation initially centers around Sheridan’s controversial decision to post a photo of Paul George breaking his leg in Aug. 2014 after fouling James Harden in the fourth quarter of a scrimmage at the Thomas & Mack Center. Sheridan shared the photo before sharing his own column, as he spoke with PG-13 about that horrible injury.
“I went up to Paul George, and we exchanged pleasantries, and I said, ‘Look, I want to talk to you about what happened here because we’re back at the scene of the event,'” Sheridan shared. “I said, ‘Have you been back over there yet?’ And he said, ‘No, I haven’t.'”
But, Sheridan explains, George said he fully intended to return to the scene soon, when he has time.
“He remembers that night vividly,” Sheridan explained.
Debating the Tweet
Noah challenged Sheridan’s decision to post the photo on Twitter.
“It’s not like it’s a famous photo,” Coslov said. “It’s not even a photo, it’s a screen grab. I had never seen a screen grab of it.”
The two went back and forth.
“I wrote the story that I thought was the most relevant story yesterday because that’s my job as a journalist,” Sheridan said, adding that the narrative about George re-signing in Oklahoma City was “kind of an obvious story.”
Other Storylines
The conversation progresses to a discussion of which player at camp is the alpha dog.
“If LeBron shows up, he’s certainly the alpha dog, but for the time being, probably it’s Kevin Durant,” Sheridan shares.
Later, Noah and Chris discuss Durant’s propensity for getting testy with the media and fans, his “beef” with C.J. McCollum, and LeBron regretting his decision to name his son LeBron James Jr. Listen to the full podcast by hitting play above.
