Video Blog: Who Is 2014’s Boxer of the Year?

As the end of the year approaches, talk will heat up over what boxer will be named ‘Boxer of the Year‘ for 2014.  The fact is, 2014 will go down as a year without a clear cut number one candidate, but rather with a field of several men who can make a viable claim on the spot.

Middleweight phenom Gennady Golovkin went 3-0 this year, after winning most of these awards in 2013 with a 4-0 year.

Sergey Kovalev also put on a 3-0 year, topping it off with his destruction of Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins.

The USA’s Terence Crawford also went 3-0 and is leaving the lightweight division as the clear cut No. 1 in the world at that weight.  His best win was over fading Cuban phenom Yuriorkis Gamboa, and he solidified his grasp on the belt with a year ending win over tough Raymundo Beltran.

Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez went a solid 4-0 and added a world title in a third weight class.  Now a perfect 41-0 for his career, Gonzalez is still a dark horse because he competes in the sport’s lightest weight classes.

In this latest video blog, our veteran expert examines some of the choices for ‘Boxer of the Year’ and opens it up for some feedback  Check out who else made the list as honorable mention.
