Arsenal fans have asked themselves questions all season long as they have struggled in both the Premier League and on the European stage.
Where have all the marquee stars gone to play instead?
Why aren’t we contending for a league title this season?
Why has there been so many excuses and talk about a brighter future next year when we want to win now?
Arsenal has been quite lousy with just six wins in 15 games and they have collected just 23 points so far this season. To be in contention with the big boys in the EPL, they would need about 10 more points.
Coming off another disappointing effort, there are plenty of reasons for Arsenal fans to be upset about the way their team has performed and perhaps the most important question of all is why is Arsene Wenger still the manager? Here is a quick look at three reasons why Wenger deserves to be fired this season.
Does This Guy Have Poor Judgment Or What?
Perhaps the most damning criticism of Wenger has been his poor judgment when it comes to the players that have been on his radar and those that have not. The lack of signings at Arsenal has been alarming, while players like David Villa, Raphael Varane, and Juan Mata have slipped past them.
Meanwhile, a player like Jeremie Aliadiere came in highly touted by Wenger, but he hasn’t provided nearly the type of quality that many would have thought. Players like Sebastien Squllaci and Andre Santos aren’t the type of star players that will make a major difference on a Premier League club and, considering the lack of quality players that have taken up with Arsenal over the last two years, it’s clear that Wenger should have to go. If the team can’t start making the right decisions in terms of talent, it’s going to be hard for them to dig themselves out of this massive hole
Excuses, Excuses
Fans of the Gunners have to hear plenty of other excuses and it seems as though Wenger always has something or someone else to blame. Whether it’s hearing about the state of the pitch or the way that an opponent has been playing or even officiating, there always seems to be a number of excuses that Wenger has to offer up to the media. Of course, it’s never just his fault. There’s always some external source that’s hampering them from playing to their peak.
At the end of the day, his team has taken on the identity of their manager and it seems as though they are just as willing to pass the blame and make excuses rather than take accountability for their own play. Wenger’s personnel and strategic moves haven’t paid off and rather than continuing to allow excuses, it’s time that Arsenal made a change. Unless Wenger is the change, this team isn’t going to have a noticeable change in culture.
This Is Nothing New: Arsenal Has Been Mediocre For A While
It’s also important to point out that the lack of success has been a long-term problem as the Gunners haven’t won anything in eight years. It would be one thing if they struggled to find their identity over one or two years, but the fact that Arsenal has been so average for so long is a testament that things likely won’t be any different until the team makes changes at the top.
There are plenty of ways to measure what Wenger has brought to the table as the manager at Arsenal over the past few years but the bottom line is that the club hasn’t performed at the level a top Premier League team should and the lack of success and trophies over the past eight years is a harsh enough bottom line to call for Wenger’s dismissal as manager.
