Cincinnati Reds host the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday on ESPN

Baseball Odds: The Sunday game on ESPN has the St. Louis Cardinals visiting the Cincinnati Reds. The St. Louis Cardinals have played better of late and they are within striking distance of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. The Cincinnati Reds have not played that well this season and they could end up as underdogs in this game on Sunday night even though they are at home. Let’s look at the matchup and baseball picks for today.

Wainwright vs. Leake

The probable pitching matchup on Sunday has Adam Wainwright going against Mike Leake. Both pitchers have low ERA’s this season but Wainwright has the far better record. He comes into this contest at 7-2 overall with a 1.85 ERA. He is coming off a shutout last time out against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is one of the most reliable starters in baseball as he has gone at least seven innings in 8 of his 10 starts this season. The only concern if you bet the St. Louis Cardinals is that Wainwright is just 6-9 in his career with a 4.75 ERA against the Cincinnati Reds.

Mike Leake has a very good ERA of 2.91 but his overall record is just 2-3. The team just isn’t scoring runs when he goes to the mound. They got him two runs last time out against the Washington Nationals but the bullpen blew his 2-1 lead and he got a no-decision. In his last three starts, Leake has an ERA of 1.66. He has struggled against the St. Louis Cardinals in his career with a 3-4 record and a 5.06 ERA.

Game Notes

These teams had split their last ten meetings before this series started and they had also split the last ten in Cincinnati. The met back in April and it was the St. Louis Cardinals winning two of three with two of the games going under.

Baseball Picks for Today

The current trends point to this game going under but each pitcher has struggled against the opposing team in their career. I will avoid the total and just take Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals to get the win.
