OC Kyle Shanahan Leaves Browns

Another day, another unemployed second-generation NFL coach. This time it’s Kyle Shanahan, son of former Broncos and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan, who hit the bricks of his own volition, asking for and receiving a release from his contract with the Cleveland Browns.

Ironically, Shanahan leaves the Browns officially on the same day he’s interviewing with the Buffalo Bills for their head coaching job. ESPN reports the Bills are the only team looking at Shanahan as a possible head coach.

According to Cleveland.com, the beginning of the end for Shanahan with the Browns began in the regular season when “play calls” were requested via text from the press box by a “high-ranking non-coaching staff member.” So probably Jimmy “I know nothing” Haslam, then. Reportedly the front office also pressured coaches to play Johnny Manziel, sources told ESPN. Even if Shanahan doesn’t get the Bills head coaching job (he won’t), he’ll still have no trouble landing work in the NFL. Presumably Kyle’s father Mike Shanahan will hire him wherever he ends up.

Shanahan will also be atop Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn’s list. Vic Fangio and Pat Shurmer’s as well.
