Kyle Shanahan Hired as Falcons Offensive Coordinator

Former Browns playcaller Kyle Shanahan will be the new offensive coordinator in Atlanta.

They still don’t have a head coach, but the Atlanta Falcons have found their next offensive coordinator. Kyle Shanahan parted ways with the Cleveland Browns earlier in the month after reports surfaced that he and his staff were receiving “coaching suggestions” from the owner’s box.

The Falcons are still without a head coach for another two weeks. It appears that Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has the job, he just can’t officially take until after the Super Bowl.

Shanahan is one of the most coveted young offensive minds in football and wasn’t expected to be out of a job long. It was thought that Kyle would join whatever staff his father Mike ended up coaching, but with the Falcons zeroing in on Quinn, it appears as if Shanahan, along with former Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone, will be out of work in 2015.

Shanahan has coached in the NFL since 2004, when he was an offensive quality control coach under John Gruden with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Shanahan served as the offensive coordinator for Gary Kubiak for the Houston Texans from 2008-09, then with the Redskins from 2010-13.
