Weekend MMA Picks

Melvin Manhoef (R) will look to defeat Alexander Shlemenko at Bellator 133 this weekend.

The ongoing Combat Sports betting blog series continues after a slow start to 2015.  Our veteran blogger Miguel Iturrate has about $3,400 dollars in the fictitious bank, and four bets have been placed for this weekend’s fights.

Boxing’s calendar has been especially slow to pick up in 2015, but two fight cards over scheduled for Saturday in England got action on this week’s blog.  In Blackpool, Brian Rose and Carson Jones duel for the WBC International Super Welterweight title.  Over in Wolverhampton, Ireland’s Stephen Ormond defends his WBO European Lightweight title against undefeated Terry Flanagan.  Flanagan and Rose are both favorites, however both have open questions.  Flanagan is undefeated but he has a padded record, and Rose was absolutely dismantled by Demetrius Andrade in his recent attempt at winning a world championship.

Heading over to MMA, the World Series of Fighting went down Thursday, but there was little there of value to the gaming enthusiast.  Bellator 133 hits Friday night and the main event there between Alexander Shlemenko and Melvin Manhoef caught some attention. The UFC’s Colorado Fight Night main event of Benson Henderson and Brandon Thatch also caught our eye, as that fight that was made only recently has creeped to nearly even at the books.
