Pac-12 Race Down To Arizona And Utah

Preseason media polls don’t always get things right when trying to predict the order of finishes in college basketball. Just in the Pac-12, UCLA and Colorado were supposed to finish among the top four and receive byes in the Pac-12 Tournament to be held in Las Vegas.

While those picks might have backfired, the preseason notion that the Pac-12 would come down to Arizona and Utah looks quite promising.

With just six games remaining in the regular season, both the Wildcats and Utes are tied atop the conference standings at 10-2–though UA holds the tiebreaker thanks to their 69-51 win against Utah in Tucson. Of the six games left, five look to be extremely winnable for each squad, but it’s the one left that has each fan base worrying.

On February 28, Arizona will walk into the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, the second most hostile environment in the conference, and try to seal their grip on a regular season title for the second straight year.

Utah has been extremely difficult to handle at home recently. A year ago, they pushed each and every opponent to the brink with a less experienced, less savvy and ultimately, less talented team. Delon Wright is a true candidate for Pac-12 Player of the Year, as he is the straw that stirs Utah’s drink. He’ll be matched up against T.J. McConnell, Arizona’s heart and soul and one of the most under appreciated players in the entire country.
