Epic Missouri Valley Showdown Headlines Weekend Picks

Gregg Marshall and the Shockers host No. 10 Northern Iowa on Saturday for sole possession of first place in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Another weekend is fast approaching, meaning that it’s finally time for us to unveil our Weekend Picks To Click. Saturday once again features a bevy of intriguing match ups from the Atlantic 10, American, Big 12, MVC and SEC, and we’re here to break it all down.

After getting swept by rival Richmond, VCU is now stuck in a four-way tie atop the Atlantic 10 with Davidson, Rhode Island and, of course, Dayton. The Flyers and Rams will duke it out at VCU, with a chance at gaining the upper hand in the conference before heading into the final week of the regular season.

SMU goes on the road this week for dates with Memphis and UConn, the second of which features an exciting point guard battle between Nic Moore and Ryan Boatright. Moore is putting up a cool 14.5 points and 5.4 assists per game for the Mustangs, and is a big reason why they’re sitting atop the American Conference standings right now.

Riding the momentum from a huge road win at Iowa State, Baylor hosts another hot Big 12 opponent in West Virginia. The Bears won 87-69 in Morgantown, showing the potential match up problem that their zone causes for the Mountaineers.

One of the biggest games of the weekend takes place in the MVC between Northern Iowa and Wichita State, a game that will likely determine the MVC champion, as both are tied atop the standings. In the SEC, Kentucky takes on Arkansas, who were once thought to be the Wildcats’ top challenger in the SEC. The length and athleticism of Arkansas matches up well with Kentucky, but UK’s continued improvement might be too much to overcome.
