Here is your Thursday NHL Fantasy Six.
Left Wing – Alex Ovechkin – Washington Capitals
The Capitals host the New Jersey Devils at 7 p.m. Eastern Time and the Great Eight figures to shine for the Caps. Washington has to kick it into overdrive as the Ottawa Senators and their Hamburglar goaltender are just three points behind them in eighth place. Ovechkin has 47 goals and 26 assists on the season and has eight goals with three assists for his nine games in the month of March.
Center – Sidney Crosby – Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins are at the woeful Carolina Panthers with faceoff time set for 7 p.m. ET. Carolina has won just two out of their last ten games and ranks 19th in the NHL for goals against. Crosby is the Penguins leading scorer with 24 goals and 50 assists but just one goal and three assists in his last five games. He should breakout in this one.
Right Wing – Marian Gaborik – Los Angeles Kings
The Kings have again found the on-switch with two straight wins to start a do or die five game road trip. Los Angeles is at the New York Islanders with faceoff time set for 7 p.m. ET. Gaborik has 23 goals and 19 assists on the season and is a plus-six. He is in good form with two goals and two assists in his last five games. The Islanders have lost seven out of their last ten as their defensive weaknesses are being exposed. New York ranks 20th in the NHL for goals against and 27th against the penalty kill.
Defenseman – Kris Letang – Pittsburgh Penguins
Carolina ranks 27th in the NHL for goals scored and Letang could be dominant against the Hurricanes. Letang is in the conversation for the Norris Trophy as top NH defenseman. Letang has 11 goals and 43 assists on the season with a plus-13 but has dropped off lately with just one goal and one assist in his last five games. Letang should make for a strong choice Thursday and is due to pick up production.
Defenseman – P.K. Subban – Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens are at the Winnipeg Jets at 8 p.m. ET. Subban took an overtime penalty that proved to be deadly in Tuesday’s 3-2 loss at the Nashville Predators and figures to want to atone for it against the Jets. Subban is playing better than in his Norris Trophy season of 2013. Subban has one goal and three assists in 12 games this month with a plus-two. Subban breaks out in this one.
Goalie – Carey Price – Montreal Canadiens
Price is in the running for the Hart Trophy as most valuable player and is so dominant that he has given Montreal the reputation of being a one man team. Price has a save percentage of .937 on the season with nine shutouts and is at .956 in his last five games. Price was beaten in overtime by the Nashville Predators 3-2 Tuesday night and should be raring to go in this one.
