With Spring Ball heating up around the country, coaching staffs everywhere are getting their first feel for what the core of their teams will look like. For some staffs, that core will be a vital part of their employment situation a little less than a year from now.
It is never fun to talk about coaches who may lose their job, but it’s the reality of the college football world that we all live in. With that in mind, here’s the first looks at college football’s hot seat.
Larry Fedora, North Carolina: Fedora is 21-17 in his three seasons at UNC, making a bowl game the past two years after dealing with NCAA sanctions in year one. But the Tar Heels have stalled out in an advantageous ACC, leading to much speculation about whether or not he is the man to keep things going.
Mike London, Virginia: Many thought that London wouldn’t have a chance to save his job this season, due to his 23-38 record at UVA. The Cavs have only made one bowl game in his now six year tenure. That will need to change.
Kevin Wilson, Indiana: Winning at IU isn’t easy for any football coach, but going 14-34 isn’t cutting it. The Hoosiers had improved their win total each of Wilson’s first three seasons, but regressed a year ago.
Randy Edsall, Maryland: The recruiting has been there for the Terps, so why have they yet to turn the corner? Edsall is in year five of a six season contract, so it’s extension or expiration time in College Park.
Al Golden, Miami: It was admirable of Golden to stick around despite harsh penalties from the NCAA, but he hasn’t been able to get things right despite continuing UM’s tradition of producing NFL talent.
