The New York Yankees will host the Boston Red Sox on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball with coverage starting from Yankee Stadium at 7 p.m. ET. We’ll focus on top fantasy prospects for one day action in a matchup of ancient rivals.
SP – Clay Buchholz – Boston
The Red Sox right hander will get the start against the Yankees and Masahiro Tanaka. Buchholz had a promising season debut with seven shutout innings and just three hits and one walk allowed with nine strikeouts. Although his velocity and consistency have declined, Buchholz remains an attractive commodity and potential bargain on the road against a popular team.
SS – Hanley Ramirez – Boston
Ramirez was off to a promising start for the Red Sox with a .311 average, .348 on base percentage, and a .939 OPS based on two home runs. Ramirez has three runs and five RBI. Although he can be inconsistent at times, Ramirez rates as one of the top shortstops in the game and a first round level player.
3B – Pablo Sandoval – Boston
Sandoval got off to a pedestrian start with a .348 on base percentage, .286 batting average, with two runs, three RBI and no extra base hits. Sandoval is one of the reasons that the Red Sox are getting so much hype to make a deep playoff run after their stunning setback of last year in which they missed the playoffs as defending World Series champions. Sandoval should find hitter friendly Yankee Stadium inviting.
C –Brian McCann- New York
We will hedge our lineup with McCann, who could very well prove to be one of the better bargains for daily fantasy action. The unheralded Yankee backstop was off to a sluggish start with a .233 average, .313 on base percentage and an OPS of .620. We’ll make a bargain call here with a 20 home run man that brings excellent defense behind the plate with the potential to drive runs in.
1B – Mike Napoli – Boston
Napoli is off to a terrible start with no hits in his first 15 plate appearances with just two walks. We are betting on upside and potential with this pick and the likelihood that we can get the Red Sox first baseman at a bargain. Napoli has a career average of 19 home runs and an .847 OPS.
Sleeper – Mark Teixeira – New York
The switch hitting Yankee first baseman could be one of the more effective pin stripers against Buchholz and was off to a promising start to the season with an OPS Of .975 based on two home runs and one double with four walks to make for an impressive .350 on base percentage that trumps a .188 batting average. We see plenty of value for Teixeira based on that misleading batting average.
