Jaime Penedo Picking Up Steam As Top MLS Fantasy Goalie

Penedo stood out as the top keeper this week.

Colorado was the big winner from this past weekend with a 4-0 win over FC Dallas and that meant some quality fantasy production across the board – including the biggest single-game performance from a forward. Vancouver and Columbus played two games and got bonus points for weekly leagues but in terms of just the weekend’s games, the fantasy picture looked much different. Here is a quick look at the best MLS fantasy performances based only on this past weekend’s games.

GK: Jaime Penedo, LA Galaxy

Pinedo was the top fantasy goalkeeper from this past weekend as he made a ridiculous 19 saves in a 1-0 win over the rival Seattle Sounders. The win and the clean sheet was an added bonus but considering the 19-save performance alone, Penedo’s game against Seattle already ranks among the best fantasy performances of the year for goalkeepers. Seattle had previously scored six goals in their previous four games.

D: Jamison Olave, Real Salt Lake

Olave stood out as the top fantasy defender in an otherwise decent week in which nobody stood out. His seven passes intercepted combined with a clean sheet was enough for him to stand above the rest despite failing to register either a goal or an assists.

M: Perry Kitchen, DC United

Kitchen was an absolute monster for DC United in their 2-2 draw with the New York Red Bulls as he scored both goals and won seven fouls in the most dominant performance of the week among midfielders. Kitchen did everything from winning tackles to intercepting passes and that only inflated a stat line that had already been built on his two goals.

M: Dillon Powers, Colorado

Powers was a star in the Rapids midfield on the weekend as he scored on one of his two shots on goal and added an assist as well in their 4-0 win. Any time a team beats up on another, there is bound to be some big stat lines and Powers was an absolute stud this past weekend as Colorado buried Dallas.

M: Vincent Nogueira, Philadelphia Union

Nogueira is another example of a top fantasy performer from this past weekend that was able to find the back of the net with a goal but also contributed in a number of other areas. He collected a ridiculous 10 winning tackles and nine fouls won to rank among the top fantasy performers from this past weekend.

F: Gabriel Torres, Colorado

Colorado made easy work of Dallas with a 4-0 win and Torres led the way up front with a goal and two shots on target as well as three fouls won. Torres is the perfect example of a striker that does it all and really makes a big impact when he does score. This past weekend’s performance was the best of all forward-eligible players but keep in mind that this was Colorado’s first four goals of the season. They hadn’t scored a single goal prior to this game.

F: Lamar Neagle, Seattle

Neagle didn’t have a goal but still managed to register the second-best fantasy performance among all forwards this past weekend with five shots on goal and two corners won in Seattle’s 1-0 loss to the LA Galaxy. Players that are able to put up solid fantasy totals even when they don’t score are that much more valuable, so it’s worth making a note of Neagle’s performance.

F: David Villa, New York City FC

NYCFC managed just a single goal in their 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Union but Villa rewarded the fantasy managers that had invested in him with a goal and three shots on target. Villa is one of the more expensive forwards available but if he can continue to produce at the level he did this past weekend, it will be worth buying in with him.

Other Notable Standouts

M: Felipe, New York Red Bulls

D: Seb Hines, Orlando City SC

D: Kevin Alston, New England
