The Abu Dhabi Combat Club’s Submission Wrestling World Championships have been booked for Sao Paulo, Brazil on from Aug. 28-30. First conceived in 1998, the ADCC World Championships are synonymous with the biggest names in grappling. In the early days, the tournament was by invite only, however over the years a series of extremely competitive regional qualifying tournaments have sprung up world-wide.
Heading into 2015, the ADCC has announced that the traditional superfight will take place as superfight champiopn Andre Galvao faces the winner of the ADCC’s 2013 Absolute tournament, Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu.
The ADCC is already announcing two other superfights in what could be termed in the senior or classic division. Former teammates Mario Sperry and Ricardo Liborio square off in the first fight. Sperry was the first Absolute tournament champion and he was the first superfight champion, and he is closely associated with the ADCC since the inception. Liborio is the guiding force behind American Top Team and both him and Sperry were students together under the great Carlson Gracie.
Also announced is a showdown between Renzo Gracie and Matt Hughes. Both men have met in MMA and both men are ADCC veterans, with Gracie having won several championships and mentored several other tournament champions as well.
