UFC 187 Odds Review For The Undercard

The UFC 187 event scheduled for this Saturday is one of the better UFC offerings all year, as two title fights headline the event.  The show is also elevated by a strong undercard, led by the Flyweight match-up between John Dodson and Zach Mackovsky and the welterweight scrap between Josh Burkman and Dong Hyun Kim.  The show also feature popular The Ultimate Fighter reality show runner-up Rose Namajunas facing Nina Ansarof.

Dodson and Mackovsky are part of a Flyweight heavy line-up that also sees Joseph Benavides and John Moraga battling it out on the main card and newcomers Justin Scoggins taking on Josh Sampo.  Like Benavides and Moraga, the Dodson-Mackovsky fight could be a fight that yields the next title contender to Demetrious Johnson’s title.  Benavides-Moraga made it onto the main card on PPV, but it could be this match that steals the show.

In the welterweight tilt, Kim has a lot to prove.  Once one of the division’s brightest stars, he still owns a fine (11-3) record in the octagon, but it warrants noting that his three losees all came in the first round, which goes a long way towards setting him back.  In Burkman, he gets a fighter returning to the UFC after a long time away who is looking to get back to winning.  He lost his latest debut, to Hector Lombard, but the bout was overturned due to Lombard’s testing positive for PED’s.

Namajunas, as popular as she is coming off her TV show appearance, desperately needs a win.  She lost in the reality series finals to Carla Esparza, and she has in fact lost two fights in a row.  Ansaroff also dropped her UFC debut, so neither girl can afford a loss right now.
