The Barclays Premier League season will come to an end this weekend with all 20 teams in action on Sunday. While Chelsea has already clinched the title Spurs and Southampton are still within striking distance of Liverpool for the fifth spot in the table.
Meanwhile, Hull still has a chance to avoid relegation with a win and a Newcastle loss. The remaining scenarios will have an impact on our fantasy selections for this week as we attempt to break down the best mix of superstar talent and sleeper value plays for the last time this season.
GK: Kasper Schmeichel, Leicester
Salary: $5,400
Leicester is clear of the relegation zone but the potential is there for them to drop as many as three spots in the table and that’s a situation they will be favored to avoid when they host Queens Park Rangers on Sunday. QPR will be demoted when the season is complete and while it’s unreasonable to think they will exit England’s top league with a whimper, Leicester has won four of its last six games with only a single loss over that span. That makes Schmeichel an excellent play here at a decent price with a very real opportunity to earn both the win and the clean sheet in their season finale.
D: Danny Rose, Tottenham
Salary: $3,900
Tottenham still has the potential to leap over Liverpool in to the fifth spot in the table with a crucial three points on the line when they visit Everton on Sunday. Rose already ranks fifth among defenders in average fantasy points per game on DraftKings so it only makes sense to lock him in at one of the two D positions.
D: Alan Hutton, Aston Villa
Salary: $3,500
Hutton can be found a little lower in the fantasy points per game rankings among defenders but he is also available at a lesser salary with Aston Villa set to host a Burnley side that is set for relegation in big part because of its lack of goal scoring. No Premier League team has scored fewer goals this season than Villa’s opponent this weekend, so it makes sense to play Hutton here. He’s a strong value play with the potential for a clean sheet bonus very much in play for this contest.
M: Christian Eriksen, Tottenham
Salary: $7,700
Eriksen ranks among the top-10 midfielders on the board in fantasy points per game and he is also available at a very reasonable price that won’t limit our ability to plug in strong contributors at other positions. We have already talked about how important a win over Everton will be for Spurs this weekend, so it only makes sense to plug in one of their best fantasy players at a decent price in this spot.
M: Oscar, Chelsea
Salary: $6,600
Chelsea has already locked up the Premier League title in dominant fashion but even with nothing left to play for, they will want to go out on top by winning their game against Sunderland. It will be interesting to see how aggressive the Blues are in this season finale and at under $7,000, we can’t resist the temptation to use a world-class talent in Oscar.
F: Harry Kane, Tottenham
Salary: $9,800
Only Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez have a higher average fantasy points per game among forwards than Kane this season. With Spurs fighting for a spot in the top-five in the table and Kane looking to cap off an impressive campaign in style, we like plugging him in to this spot as the most expensive player in our starting lineup.
F: Dame N’Doye, Hull
Salary: $7,300
Hull will be hoping for a miracle win over Manchester City to climb out of the relegation zone. The odds are against them but any chance they have will depend heavily on the play of N’Doye up front. N’Doye has been their top forward all season and after three straight losses, he will be leaned on heavily as Hull attempts to avoid relegation.
FLEX: Glenn Murray, Crystal Palace
Salary: $5,500
Crystal Palace isn’t the most dangerous attacking team but they ended a four-game slide with a win over in their last game. They have an excellent chance to carry the momentum over from that victory and end their season in style with a win over Swansea. Murray has been very consistent for Crystal Palace all season and he had a goal in his last game versus Liverpool. That’s why we feel comfortable using him in this spot as the best player available with the remaining money we have left over to fill out our roster.
