Fact Or Fiction: Tottenham Transfer Rumors

Don't expect Lloris to be leaving Tottenham this summer.

With the Barclays Premier League coming to an end this weekend, the focus shifts to the future and what is in store for the individual clubs heading in to another busy offseason. Tottenham will wrap up a short post-season tour before head coach Mauricio Pochettino and his management team gets to work. There has been no shortage of rumors when it comes to the transfer rumors that have surrounded the team as changes need to be made. They’re close to the top of the table but they still have ample work to close the 20-point gap between them and Chelsea. And they also want to make sure they don’t slide back to the pack. With that in mind, here is our fact or fiction on their hottest trade rumors right now.

Harry Kane

There have been several reports that Kane is at the top of the list for a handful of clubs looking to acquire a talented striker. Kane has shown he can shine with minimal help as he hasn’t been surrounded by a strong supporting cast. He’s still converting goals this season and that’s why it didn’t take long for the rumors to start that Tottenham would be willing to part ways with him. Kane just signed a new contract in February that was expected to keep him with Spurs until 2020 but with such a lucrative skill set and at just 21 years old, there will be no shortage of suitors willing to pay a substantial price for his services. The most important remaining question is this: will Tottenham benefit more from moving him now or holding on to him? At this point, they will be much better off with Kane in their lineup than with the money they would get sending him to a rival team so at least for now look for him to stay put. If he is moved, expect them to decline in the table next season. Verdict: Fiction

Morgan Schneiderlin

The idea that Spurs will be in the mix for Schneiderlin traces back to his former boss Pochettino but while that obvious link exists, the bridge between Tottenham and Southampton isn’t nearly ready for him to cross just yet. Southampton has no reason to move a player that is so important in their lineup – especially with Spurs unable to pay the type of substantial price it would cost. The link between Schneiderlin and Pochettino will keep the door open for a potential future move but right now, this is nothing more than a hot rumor based on the very definite link between the two sides. Verdict: Fiction

Kevin Wimmers

The talk about Wimmers’ eventual move to Tottenham has been a long time coming and now it appears as though this transfer is more of an eventuality than anything else. There have been a number of reports that the Cologne defender is near the top of the list for Pochettino heading in to this offseason and it seems like only a matter of time before a deal eventually gets done at this point. There is no question that Tottenham needs help at the back end. Even though they are currently in sixth place in the standings, that’s quite impressive when you realize that only one other team in the top 14 has given up as many goals as the 53 that they’ve allowed this season (Leicester City). Verdict: Fact

Hugo Lloris

There are a number of top flight teams that would love to find a way to land Lloris’ services and that will lead to continued transfer rumors in to this offseason. However, the reality is that Tottenham isn’t anywhere close to moving him. A new contract means the French National goalkeeper is staying put for now regardless of how many clubs show interest in him this offseason. And we mentioned the defensive woes. Losing Lloris would only compound those problems. Verdict: Fiction
