Steve Wojciechowski waited his turn for a prime head coaching opening, and it finally came through when he got the call from Marquette.
Tasked with keeping the Golden Eagles on pace with the direction Buzz Williams had the program headed, Wojciechowski first needed to lock down the state boarders, and get all the talent he could from Milwaukee. He did just that, landing the best recruit in the conference, and has Marquette on top of the Big East recruiting rankings.
1.) Marquette Golden Eagles
It never hurts to bring in the best recruit in the conference, and that’s exactly what Marquette is doing with Henry Ellenson coming to campus. But he isn’t alone, as the Golden Eagles also have four-star shooting guard Haanif Cheatham joining him. This will be the class that brings Marquette back towards the top of the conference.
2.) Georgetown Hoyas
Landing talented high school prospects has never been a problem at GU, and that still holds true in 2015. Jessie Govan, a four-star center, could be yet another great big man in the nation’s capitol, while Marcus Derrickson projects as a high-level wing to compliment him.
3.) Villanova Wildcats
Five-star point guards thrive playing under head coach Jay Wright, which is why it’s no surprise to see Jalen Brunson on his way to VU. Dante Divincenzo will be his running mate, projecting as a lethal shooter from outside.
4.) St. John’s Red Storm
Chris Mullin has made quick work of recruiting in Queens, and his class got a big boost when four-star point guard Marcus LoVett committed this week. Nabbing four-star forward Darien Williams should give his squad an immediate boost as well.
5.) Creighton Bluejays
Omaha may not be a powerhouse when it comes to college basketball recruiting, but when the city does produce a high level talent, Creighton has to land it. In 2015, they did just that, with Justin Patton.
6.) Providence Friars
This class of 2015 doesn’t have the star power that Ed Cooley has brought in to campus in past years, but it does have depth in numbers.
7.) Seton Hall Pirates
The Pirates have lost some momentum in recent months after their hot start turned into one of the most disappointing finishes in the country last season, and that seems to have carried over to the recruiting trail.
8.) DePaul Blue Demons
For DePaul, it’s not so much about trying to land the best players in Chicago, the types of talents that generally get recruited by bigger, more established programs. What it is about, is landing solid, developmental prospects, like they have in 2015.
9.) Butler Bulldogs
Butler isn’t going to be signing an excessive amount of four-star talents, but they do as well in player development as anyone out there. Keep an eye out for 6’9 Nathan Fowler.
10.) Xavier Musketeers
With only one recruit, Xavier had to come in last. However, watch out for Kaiser Gates in Cincinnati.
