The overall win total that a goalkeeper registers throughout the course of the season has always been among the most important statistics when it comes to real-life measurements of performance but for fantasy guys, there’s a whole lot more to it. A losing goalkeeper can still be quite valuable as there are a number of categories where they compete, such as saves, goals allowed and clean sheets.
It’s no shock that four of the goalies on this list played for teams that ranked among the best in the Premier League but the one name not on this list might come as a surprise. Here is a look at the top five goalkeepers from the Premier League this past season based on the overall fantasy stat totals.
Fraser Forster, Southampton
Forster certainly didn’t finish in the top-five in wins among Premier League goalkeepers as he finished with 16 for a Southampton side that finished seventh in the EPL table. Still, he still managed to earn the top spot on this list based on his incredible individual performance. Forster allowed just 21 goals on 81 shots this season and his 14 clean sheets were tied for the most in the Premier League. What’s impressive is that while this team finished seventh in overall points, they actually allowed the second-fewest goals. The 33 goals allowed was one more than EPL champs Chelsea.
Forster could have put up even better numbers on a more talented team but the fantasy stats say that he was still the best goalkeeper from the Premier League this past season.

Joe Hart, Manchester City
Manchester City certainly had a number of shortcomings this season but the keeper position wasn’t one of them. Hart posted the second-best fantasy total in the Premier League at his position, leading the Citizens to a second-place finish in the standings. Hart led the Premier League in wins and also managed to register 14 clean sheets to tie Forster for the most in England’s top division, so it should be no surprise that he earned this spot on our list. City gave up 38 goals on the season, which was the fifth-most in the EPL.
Thibault Courtois, Chelsea
Courtois took the No. 1 job at Chelsea and never looked back as he led the team to 19 wins in 32 appearances. He was brilliant when he needed to be for the Premier League champions, whose 32 goals allowed were the fewest. Courtois didn’t have to deal with an overwhelming workload, which was not ideal for the saves category (his 87 saves were 11th), but he stepped up when he needed to and delivered a solid fantasy performance for the course of the year.
Simon Mignolet, Liverpool
Even though Liverpool struggled mightily this season, Mignolet still ranked among the best goalkeepers in the Premier League this past season. He still managed to register 18 wins and 14 clean sheets. He faced 130 shots on net this season, which allowed him to place ninth in saves (89). That was a big reason why he made this list.
David Ospina, Arsenal
United fans will be shocked to see Ospina rounding out this list rather than David De Gea but while the latter is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, his numbers didn’t have him in the top-five for this season from a fantasy perspective. De Gea got more minutes (3314 to Ospina’s 1620) but when you break it down to a per-start basis, you have to be impressed with Ospina’s work. He allowed 11 goals in 18 starts with 46 saves in total. That’s 0.61 goas per outing compared to De Gea’s 0.97 and Ospina also posted eight clean sheets in just 18 starts compared to De Gea, who had 10 clean sheets in 37 outings.
Sure, De Gea had the better overall season but if you got the chance to pick up and use Ospina, you were definitely in great shape as his per-game numbers were among the best in the EPL.
