The Top Fantasy Performers From The MLS This Past Week

Giovinco had another huge effort for TFC this week.

The Houston Dynamo pulled out the most impressive offensive performance of the week in the MLS with a 4-2 win over New York City FC, so it’s no surprise to see a couple of their top guns ranked among the best fantasy performers from this past week. Meanwhile, Sporting Kansas City’s 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders provided another couple of the top fantasy performers from this past week, including SKC’s goalkeeper and best defender from the win. Here is a look at the top fantasy performers from this past week in the MLS.

GK: Tim Melia, Sporting KC

Melia was one of seven MLS goalkeepers that registered a clean sheet over this past week but one of only three that managed to earn a win in the process. None of the others put up numbers that were able to match the Sporting KC netminder. Melia stopped all six shots he faced in a 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders as Sporting KC closed to within two points of the West-leading Sounders. That performance was enough to put him over the top as the best MLS fantasy goalkeeper.

Honorable Mention: Adam Larsen Kwarasey, Portland; Josh Saunders, Philadelphia

D: Alvas Powell, Portland

This isn’t the first time that Powell has been on this list and yet somehow, he still doesn’t seem to get the same level of respect when it comes to daily fantasy leagues. Powell had five winning tackles for the Timbers in their 2-0 win over the New England Revolution and there is no doubt that their clean sheet helped him to secure the best fantasy stat line among MLS defenders for the week.

D: Amadou Dia, Sporting KC

Dia benefited from Sporting KC’s clean sheet in their 1-0 win over Seattle but he certainly deserved this spot with a stat line that included four winning tackles and four intercepted passes. That helped him secure the second-best fantasy total of the week among MLS defenders.

Honorable Mention: Matt Besler, Sporting KC; Matt Hedges, FC Dallas

M: Oscar Garcia, Houston

Garcia was an absolute fantasy beast in the Dynamo’s 4-2 win over the New York Red Bulls as he scored a goal and added two assists. Houston has the firepower to score goals in bunches as evidenced by their 21 goals in 15 games. It was impressive to see Garcia lead their attack from the middle of the field in his best performance of the MLS season.

M: Thomas McNamara, New York City FC

McNamara filled in the second-best fantasy stat line among MLS midfielders this past week and his goal against Philadelphia pushing him over the top. McNamara did a bit of everything for New York City FC, including a couple of winning tackles and passes intercepted, but it was his lone marker that put him slightly ahead of Sporting KC’s Benny Feilhaber and Houston’s Ricardo Clark.

Honorable Mention: Benny Feilhaber, Sporting KC; Ricardo Clark, Houston

F: Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto FC

Giovinco has been an absolute fantasy stud for Toronto all season and he came up big again in a 2-1 win over DC United over the weekend. Giovinco scored twice with a total of five shots on goal. Toronto moved up to third place in the Eastern Conference with the win. Giovinco was all over the field for the Reds in one of his most dominant performances of the season, filling out a number of categories to register the best fantasy stat line for the week among MLS forwards.

F: Will Bruin, Houston

Bruin was the catalyst up front for the Dynamo in their 4-2 win as he scored twice on as many shots on goal with an assist in the victory. Bruin has had a pretty good year for Houston so far and it’s performances like the one he had against NYCFC that continue to separate him from the pack.

Honorable Mention: Fanendo Adi, Portland; David Villa, New York City FC
