This coming weekend is packed with boxing and MMA action from all over the world. In this new edition of our combat sports betting blog, we take a look at some of the bets that are available for this weekend and put together a little four-fight parlay.
UFC 188 is Saturday in Mexico City, and the main event sees UFC Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez face interim titleholder Fabricio Werdum. The co-main event is a lightweight bout that promises fireworks as Eddie Alvarez faces Gilbert Melenedez. Alvarez, a former Bellator Champion who is 0-1 in the UFC, was rarely a betting underdog in his prime fighting outside of the UFC. However, he is a slight underdog in this one again, as the bettors send the message “Bellator is not the UFC”.
Airing on HBO, the Nicholas Walters (25-0) takes on the challenge of undefeated Miguel Marriaga (20-0) of Colombia. Walters is a big favorite in the fight, however Marriaga has a handful of x-factors that could make him a live underdog, including a big hook that has sent 18 of 20 opponents to the showers early.
At the weigh-ins on Friday, Walters failed to make weight, so he has already lost the WBA “Super World” Featherweight title he was bringing into the fight. Not making the weight may have been Walters way of preventing greater de-hydration, or maybe he was already too dehydrated. Either way, the belt is sitting there for Marriaga to take.
