I don’t know what Chase Utley did to piss off this squirrel, but by Zeus it demanded satisfaction. Friday night said squirrel ventured into the the confines of the Philadelphia Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park with one thing on its mind; revenge.
The squirrel heroically battled its way up the net behind home plate, made its way across the line and then dive-bombed the Phillies dugout, because of course it did.
Squirrels are a known ally of the St. Louis Cardinals team and a particular enemy of the Phillies. In 2011 the so-called “Rally Squirrel” was first unleashed on the Phillies during Game Three of the NLDS. The second squirrel showed up in Game Four.
Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt was almost attacked by a squirrel near the warning track before Game Five. The Cardinals would win Games Four and Five and go on to win the World Series.
Squirrels hate the Phillies is what I’m saying. And Friday night, a member of the Sciuridae carolinensis once again was out for blood.
