It’s the most wonderful time of the year for rumors as the summer transfer window opens the door for fans and experts alike. The water cooler is surrounded by talk about all of the star players that could potentially be on the move and this season is certainly no different when it comes to the number of big names being talked about. Here is a look at this week’s biggest soccer transfer rumors.
Carlos Bacca To Roma
One of the biggest names reportedly on the market is Sevilla’s Carlos Bacca, who is easily the most coveted defender available in Europe. Bacca has been outstanding for Sevilla and his outstanding play has attracted teams like Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool. However, according to Bacca’s agent, he is a very religious person and he would love to play in Rome where the Vatican City stands. More importantly, he’d be a great addition to what is an already strong back line. Roma allowed just 31 goals in Serie A action, which was the second-fewest in the league (only behind the 24 that league-winners Juventus).
Sevilla has parted ways with enough big players over the years to believe that they would move Bacca for the right price and with Roma rumored to be pushing hard for him, it would make a lot of sense if the two sides were able to reach a deal.
Nathaniel Clyne To Liverpool
Liverpool’s pursuit of a top defender won’t end after they miss on Bacca and reports have them lining up a separate bid to acquire Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton. This will be the second time that the Reds push hard to add Clyne and considering the past history between the two sides in regards to Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren all making the move from St. Mary’s to Anfield, we are definitely willing to buy in to this rumor as being very likely to happen. Liverpool allowed 48 goals last season and definitely needs some help on that end of the pitch. Seven other EPL teams allowed less markers than them.
Sergio Aguero To Real Madrid
Sergio Aguero lit it up in the Copa America and his form has reportedly reinvigorated interest in him for some of the top clubs in Europe. However, there has been no confirmation that Manchester City is willing to move him – especially after he only recently signed a five-year deal with them. The consensus is that Manchester City will need to add to a roster already loaded with talent in order to compete with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United at the top of the Premier League next season, so it’s unreasonable to expect them to move their star striker without a replacement in place. Charlie Austin is one name that has been talked about a lot with Queens Park Rangers facing relegation but unless City is able to add a top striker they likely won’t part ways with Aguero this summer. This rumor is one that has been chatted about a lot but doesn’t look like it’ll come to fruition.
Morgan Schneiderlin Will Leave Southampton
According to reports, Southampton has already come to terms with the fact that it will lose defender Morgan Schneiderlin and has put a 24-million euro price tag on him. Schneiderlin was outspoken when it came to leaving the Saints last summer and while it didn’t happen then, another excellent season from the 25-year-old combined with the fact that he is now clearly on the block means he will almost definitely be on his way out. It’s a sizable blow to Southampton as their line of defense was among the best in the business last season. They only allowed 33 goals, which was second-best in the EPL (only one more than Chelsea) and Schneiderlin was clearly a big part of that.
Now the only remaining question is whether Schneiderlin is bought by another Premier League team or a club outside of England.
