The UFC’s Ultimate Fighter Season 21 grand finale show goes down in Las Vegas this coming Sunday night from the MGM Grand with a main event featuring welterweights Jake Ellenberger and Stephen Thompson in a five-round clash.
The match is considered a step up fight for Thompson, as he has reeled off four wins in a row in the UFC and is stepping up to face a former top five ranked fighter. For Ellenberger, who is 30-9, he is trying to win a second fight in a row after enduring a three-fight losing streak that has knocked him back to the middle of the pack in the welterweight division.
Also at welterweight, Brazil’s Cezar Ferreira is stepping up to face the experienced Jorge Masvidal (28-9). Masvidal is moving up a weight class, as he has been competing in the UFC at lightweight, but a recent loss to stand-out Al Iaquintya has Masvidal thinking the weight cut to 155 may be too much for his frame to endure.
The other match examined here is the strawweight women’s bout between Michelle Waterson and Angela Magana. Both women have resumes approaching 20 professional fights, but it is Waterson, who is making her UFC debut, who is getting all the hype for this fight. Magana is a solid veteran who owns some good wins in her career, but she lost her UFC debut and has dropped three fights in a row overall.
