I know that when you think of the great state of Alaska that the first thing that crosses your mind is baseball. Hey, I’m not different. And what’s the best part of Alaskan baseball? The fights between managers, of course.
Consider the latest battle caught on film between Anchorage Bucs manager Mike Grahovac and Peninsula Oilers manager Kevin Griffin.

As usual when a scuffle breaks out on the field, the benches clear. In this case, however, the players forcibly pull the managers off each other instead of beating each other about the head and upper torsos. Because things are just different in Alaska.
The story behind the fight, according to Anchorage’s KTUU, begins with Grahovac having a problem with his pitcher getting squeezed by the home plate umpire during the 14th inning of an epic extra-inning battle that was easily the most exciting thing happening in Alaska at that moment outside of Bristol Palin’s sex dungeon. Grahovac stepped forth from his dugout to voice his displeasure, and as is often the case when a manager questions balls and strikes, was sent packing back to the locker room.
This happens all the time, even in the lower 48. What doesn’t usually happen is a shouting match between the ejected manager, and his counterpart standing in the third-base box as he exits. Words were exchanged, challenges met and before you know it Griffen sends Grahovac’s hat flying with a picture-perfect overhand right.
Peninsula, fired up by their manager’s epic punch, immediately scored six runs in the top of the 14th and won the game.
There’s no word at this time about the punishments Grahovac and Griffin will face, but since it’s Alaska my guess is it will involve sled dog racing, igloo building, shooting wolves out of a helicopter and ultimately cannibalism.
