Bellator 140 Results: Koreskov Captures Welterweight Title

Friday night at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, Bellator’s welterweight showcase went down with a handful of compelling matches at the Bellator 140 event.  Perhaps no fighter was more impressive than Russia’s Andrey Koreshkov, who put on a command performance winning all five rounds over champion Douglas Lima to take his belt.

Koreshkov ,who is just 24 years old, moves his record to a sterling 18-1 with this win.  Koreshkov’s dominance came from his ability to act first in the fight, dominating position with his wrestling and not letting Lima get off.  Koreshkov was the only underdog that came through for a win this show.

Likely making the case to be Koreshkov’s first title challenge is England’s Paul “Semtex” Daley,  Daley won his second Bellator fight of 2015 by smashing veteran Dennis Olson after just over one minute elapsed in round two.  Daley was scheduled to face then-champion Douglas Lima back in February of 2015, but the match was cancelled when Lima turned up injured.  After watching Koreshkov use his wrestling to dominate Lima, you can bet “Semtex” has now turned his sites toward the Russian.  Daley moves to 37-13-2 overall in MMA with the win.

But he was not the only impressive Englishman, as striker deluxe Michael Page returned to make short work of veteran Rudy Bears.  Page flashed the unorthodox attack that we have seen in the past, and when he got started it was too much for Bears, who was out of the fight after about 65 seconds. Page now moves to a perfect 8-0.

Brennan Ward was not to be outdone, as he took roughly two minutes to punch out Roger Carroll.  Carroll could not find any offense as Ward sent him to the canvas on multiple occasions.  The last time down, Carroll was out before he hit the canvas and referee John McCarthy leapt in to stop the fight.

Wrestlers Chris Honeycutt and Paul Bradley fought a tough fight for roughly 1.5 rounds that saw the prospect Honeycutt (6-0) beating Bradley to the punch throughout.  Unfortunately an accidental clash of heads caused a huge cut on Bradley that saw the match stopped.  It becomes an official “no contest”.
