The World Wrestling Entertainment Batteground pay-per-view event was Sunday night and, in typical WWE fashion, the show was not without his surprises. The major news is that WWE World Heavyweight champion Seth Rollins emerged from his showdown with former champion Brock Lesnar with his title reign intact.
Lesnar was his usual “Beast Incarnate” and he took Rollins to “Suplex City” invoking his latest catch phrase and certainly selling a ton of t-shirts, but then the unexpected happened.
Part of Lesnar’s reputation is that he is the man who snapped the Undertaker‘s two-decade-long winning streak at Wrestlemania two years ago. Lesnar has been on a basic rampage ever since, and last night at “Battleground” the Undertaker took his revenge out, attacking Lesnar and assuring Rollins retained the belt via disqualification. This leads to a number of possibilities, such as the Undertaker serving as a final enforcer for the Authority.
In the other much talked about co-main event, John Cena retained his Unted States title with a clean victory over rival and nemesis Kevin Owens. Owens and Cena have fought on three straight pay per views now, and the matches have all been terrific. Cena, whose in-ring move set has come shown progress for the first time in a long time keeps the belt and apparently sends the popular heel Owens back to the mid-card. Did WWE Creative miss the boat on this one?
