There was certainly no shortage of goal scoring in the MLS this past week with DC United pulling out a 6-4 win over Real Salt Lake and Orlando City SC producing a 5-2 win over the Columbus Crew. That meant a severe lack of quality performances from the goalkeepers, although two in particular managed to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Here is a look at the top fantasy performances at each position from this past week in the MLS.
GK: David Ousted, Vancouver / Sean Johnson, Chicago
There were only two goalkeepers that recorded clean sheet victories this week and it just so happens that each of them made three saves in their respective wins. Ousted was solid for Vancouver in a 3-0 win over the Seattle Sounders on Saturday while Johnson came through for Chicago with three saves in a 2-0 win over FC Dallas on Sunday to earn his share of the spotlight for this past week. It isn’t often that only two goalkeepers are able to record clean sheet wins in one week but with scoring up across the board, that was certainly the case this past weekend. Honorable Mention: David Bingham, San Jose; Adam Kwarasey, Portland
D: Pa-Modou Kah, Vancouver
It also isn’t very often that a defender who has been relatively quiet this season from a fantasy perspective steps up and delivers two goals on as many shots – including the game-winner in their respective match – but that is exactly what Kah did for the Whitecaps over the weekend. Kah, who entered the match with one career MLS goal in 57 matches, solidified top honors among MLS defenders when he scored his first two goals of the year before Pedro Morales added another late for Vancouver.
D: Corey Ashe, Orlando City SC
Everybody expected Cyle Larin and Kaka to contribute in Orlando’s 5-2 win over Columbus but few would have expected Ashe to step up with a pair of assists in the victory. There is no denying the firepower that Orlando has throughout its lineup and it was impressive to see Ashe get on the board with his first two points of the year in his third game of the season. Honorable Mention: Taylor Kemp, DC United
M: Ignacio Piatti, Montreal
Montreal managed to pull out a 3-2 win over NYCFC thanks to a pair of goals from Piatti, who gave the Impact a 2-0 lead in the 32nd minute and then sealed it with a penalty kick goal in the 84th minute. Piatti, who has eight goals in 18 games this season, finished with five shots including three on target and four fouls drawn to complete the best stat line among all MLS midfielders.

M: Chris Rolfe, DC United
DC United was the other high-scoring winner with a 6-4 win over RSL and it was Rolfe who led the way with a pair of goals. Rolfe nearly matched Piatti’s stat line with five shots – including three on target for the second-best fantasy stat line among MLS midfielders. Honorable Mention: Sacha Kikestan, New York Red Bulls; Javier Morales, Real Salt Lake; Lee Nguyen, New England
F: Cyle Larin, Orlando City SC
The 20-year-old Larin tied the rookie record for goals in a season with 11 when he scored twice, including the game-winner in Orlando City’s win over the Crew. The first overall pick from the 2015 MLS SuperDraft has been absolutely dominant up front this season and there is every reason to think that he will be a star in this league for years to come with all of the tools to be a truly elite striker.
F: Charlie Davies, New England
While the majority of the talk heading in to the game was based on Sebastian Giovinco’s status and whether he would play in this game, the talk afterwards was centered on Davies for the role he played in the Revolution’s 3-1 win over Toronto FC. Davies scored twice and finished the game with four shots on target as New England secured three valuable points against an Eastern Conference rival. Honorable Mention: Bradley Wright-Phillips, New York Red Bulls; David Accam, Chicago
