Talk ‘n’ Shoot Boxing Podcast: Floyd Mayweather vs Andre Berto Preview

The big news in boxing is the signing of Floyd Mayweather Jr versus Andre Berto for the MGM Grand on Sept. 12.  Mayweather has stated that this is his final fight before going into retirement, and it is the last fight of his Showtime contract. But is the choice of Florida’s Berto (30-3) the right opponent?

The undercard in support is strong, as several world title fights are scheduled, including Badou Jack‘s first WBC Super Middleweight title defense as he faces England’s George Groves.  Roman Martinez is also on the card defending his WBO World Super Featherweight  title against the man he took the belt from, Orlando Salido.

We also take a look at this Friday night’s “Premier Boxing Champions” broadcast airing on Spike TV features American heavyweights Antonio Tarver faces Steve Cunningham.  The card also marks the US debut of WBO World Cruiserweight Marco Huck as he faces the challenge undefeated Krysztof Glowacki (24-0) with his title on the line.  Heavyweight Yasmany Consuegra (17-1) takes on Artur Szpilka (19-1) in a battle of once beaten prospects that are looking to keep rising in the heavyweight rankings.

Look for “PBC” to try and make a re-match between Huck and Cunningham if both men come through this Friday night’s fights with wins.  Huck owns a win over Cunningham back in 2007 when he defeated Cunningham for the cruiserweight world title, and a rematch between the two may be the way for Huck to make his long awaited move to the heavyweight division.
