The Texas Longhorns (1-4) are seeking to put an end to a three-game losing streak as they take on the No. 10 Oklahoma Sooners (4-0). The Big 12’s third-leading passer, Baker Mayfield (1,382 yards, 13 TDs), will be featured in this game. It starts at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct 10 and will be available on ABC.
In last week’s matchup, Texas had an ugly loss against TCU 50-7. Tyrone Swoopes had a good performance through the air in the loss, connecting on five of eight pass attempts for 74 yards and one TD. D’Onta Foreman had a great game as well, adding 112 rushing yards on 18 carries. Oklahoma is hoping for another victory like last week’s performance, when it smashed West Virginia 44-24. Durron Neal had a huge game for the Sooners, grabbing two receptions for 87 yards and one TD. Baker Mayfield also had a great game with 320 yards and three TDs through the air.
The Sooners take on the Longhorns as a 13-point favorite this week. The Over/Under (O/U) for the matchup is unavailable currently.
With a 1-4 record for both Straight Up (SU) and Against The Spread (ATS), the Longhorns will look to improve as they head into Week 6. The Longhorns average 4.2 yards each time they throw, 11th in the nation. Crossing over to the defensive side of the ball, the Longhorns look to have a distinct advantage in certain spots. The Sooners will need to stop Texas’s defense from stripping the ball. It ranks 18th in the nation in fumbles recovered with one per game.
As for their opponent, the Sooners head into Week 6 with records of 3-1 ATS and 4-0 SU. Chances are Oklahoma will continue to rely on its passing attack, where its 358.2 passing yards per game ranks 10th in the nation. Shifting to the other side of the ball, it might be tough for the Longhorns to keep up with Oklahoma’s defense in a few areas. Oklahoma’s passing defense, only allowing 50.0% of passes to be completed, has a good chance of shutting down its competitor’s aerial attack. The Sooners have been embarrassing their opponent’s offensive lines this year. Oklahoma’s defense ranks 17th in the country with an average of three sacks per game. Texas needs to keep its intensity through the fourth quarter against the Sooners, who average 12 points in the final 15 minutes of regulation.
