It was an incredible set of games in Week 1 with surprises, disappointments and even a tie. All of that has already had an impact on the Week 2 opening lines. Now that the matchups are on the board with odds, let’s take a closer look at the Week 2 opening lines.
Indianapolis Colts at Washington Redskins
Opening Line: Redskins -4.5
The Redskins looked great in their 24-6 road win at Arizona. Now they’ll host a Colts team that struggled and lost to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1. The Redskins likely would have been favored by about a field goal had they looked less impressive and had the Colts won.
Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers
Opening Line: Packers -2
The Packers opened -2 but the game is off the board as we await to hear the status of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Obviously, that will have a big impact on the betting line.
Cleveland Browns at New Orleans Saints
Opening Line: Saints -8
The Browns were scrappy in their Week 1 tie with the Steelers while the Saints looked flat in their Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If everything had gone according to script, we’d be looking at the Saints as a double-digit favorite here.
Kansas City Chiefs at Pittsburgh Steelers
Opening Line: Steelers -4.5
The Steelers were very sloppy in Cleveland, coughing up six turnovers in the tie. They’ll face a much tougher task against the Chiefs this week, who smoked the Chargers 38-28 in Week 1.
Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons
Opening Line: Falcons -5
The Falcons had all sorts of red zone issues in Week 1 and blew a golden opportunity to be 1-0. The good news is that their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles was on the opening Thursday, so they’ll have 10 days to prepare for the Panthers. Carolina had an impressive Week 1 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Los Angeles Chargers at Buffalo Bills
Opening Line: Chargers -7.5
The Bills looked like the worst team in the NFL in Week 1, losing 47-3 in Baltimore while totaling just 153 yards of offense. They’re a 7.5-point underdog at home in Week 2, which is a pretty big line to be a home dog in just the second week of the season. The Chargers were their typically sloppy selves in Week 1, dropping easy touchdowns and giving up big plays. We’ll see if they’re more focused this week.
Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams
Opening Line: Rams -10.5
The Cardinals will likely rival the Bills – and other teams – for the worst record in the NFL based on their Week 1 performance. They mustered just 213 yards of offense and didn’t score until late in the fourth quarter when they were trailing 24-6. They’re the biggest dog on the board as of now.
Detroit Lions at San Francisco 49ers
Opening Line: 49ers -3
The 49ers were scrapping but could never really get on even footing with the Minnesota Vikings in their Week 1 loss at Minnesota. For a second week in a row, they’ll face an NFC North opponent.
Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos
Opening Line: Broncos -4.5
The Broncos finally found some (mostly) reliable quarterbacking as Case Keenum was 25-of-39 for 329 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks. However, he also had three interceptions. The Raiders will be on a short week after playing on Monday Night Football.
New England Patriots at Jacksonville Jaguars
Opening Line: Patriots -1
We get a rematch of the AFC Championship Game in this spot as the Patriots visit the Jaguars. Both teams looked mostly crisp in Week 1, so this will be one of the signature games of Week 2.
Seattle Seahawks at Chicago Bears
Opening Line: Bears -3
The Bears and their upstart defense (and team) will host the Seahawks in Week 2. The Seahawks saw many of last year’s problems crop up again in Week 1 of the 2018 season as they weren’t able to run the ball and their offensive line struggled. Keep an eye on the status of Doug Baldwin, who suffered an MCL sprain.
