The Rams enter after a 34-27 win over Arkansas last weekTheir defense allowed the Razorbacks to run for 299 yards on 53 rush attempts, along with one rushing TD. Devwah Whaley was on a different level for the Razorbacks in that one with 165 rushing yards and a score on 26 attempts. On the offensive side, K.J. Carta-Samuels completed 32-of-47 passes for 389 yards, two scores and one interception. Izzy Matthews (27 rushing yards on nine attempts, one TD) spearheaded the ground attack. Preston Williams (12 receptions, 154 yards, two TDs) and Olabisi Johnson (five catches, 47 yards) handled the receiving duties in the win.
One week ago, Kentucky got the win against this Florida team by a score of 27-16. The Gators defense allowed the Wildcats to kill the clock by rushing for 303 yards on 41 attempts, along with one rushing TD. Benny Snell had a solid outing, recording 175 rushing yards on 27 attempts for Kentucky. For Florida, Feleipe Franks completed 17-of-38 passes for 232 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Franks (44 yards on 11 rush attempts) handled the running game as Freddie Swain (three receptions, 30 yards, one TD) and Kadarius Toney (two catches, 35 yards) led the Florida pass-catchers in the loss.
Colorado State has run the ball on 38.7 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Florida has a rush percentage of 51.1 percent. The Rams have produced 86 rush yards/game and have only one touchdown on the ground this year. The Gators are totaling 166 rush yards per game and have only one rushing TD.
The Rams offensive scheme has logged a ridiculous 369 yards/game through the air overall and has eight passing TD so far. The Gators have put up 237 pass yards per outing and have seven total pass score.
Defensively, Colorado State has allowed 252 rush yards and 298 pass yards per game. The Florida D has allowed 77 yards per game to opposing passers and 262.5 yards per game to opposing runners. The Gators are giving up an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of only 2.49 to opposing QBs, while the Rams have allowed an ugly 10.91 ANY/A.
Offensively, Carta-Samuels has already put up 926 passing yards this year. He’s connected on 66-of-97 attempts with seven passing scores and only two interceptions. He has a 9.92 adjusted net yards per pass attempt overall, although that number is 6.13 over the last two outings.
Look for Carta-Samuels to spread the ball around early and often in this one. Preston Williams (133 receiving yards and four touchdowns), Olabisi Johnson (204 yards, two TDs) and Cameron Butler (133 yards) have all been heavily involved recently.
In the home locker room, Feleipe Franks has connected on 17-of-38 passes for 232 yards, two TDs and one INT. Franks’ ANY/A stands at 5.33 for the season and 8.31 over his past two outings.
We’re expecting the Gators to control the clock by pounding the defense with their running backs. In addition to Freddie Swain (30 receiving yards, one receiving TD), Malik Davis (15 rush yards, 25 receiving yards) and Jordan Scarlett (25 rush yards, 34 receiving yards) have delivered significant production to the Florida offense.
