Live Blog: PBC Boxing on FS1 – Jackson vs Uzcategui

Jackson vs Uzcategui battle on Fox Sports 1 tonight.

It’s Tuesday and that means Fox Sports 1 is blessing us with a little pugilism exhibition once again. We’ve got a good one in the main event at 165 pounds. Julius Jackson (19-0, 15 KOs) will take on Jose Uzcategui (23-1, 19 KOs) at the Cowboys Dance Hall in San Antonio, Texas. Scroll down for the live blog or read on for some previews.

The primary undercard will be Miguel Vazques (35-4, 13 KOs) going up against Argenis Mendez (22-3-1, 12 KOs) at 135 pounds in a fight that will likely go the distance.

The full card looks like this according to ESPN. We’ll not get all these, but the two primary cards and maybe an emergency six-rounder if we get an early knockout.

At San Antonio (PBC on Fox Sports 1/Fox Deportes): Julius Jackson vs. Jose Uzcategui, 12 rounds, IBF super middleweight eliminator; Miguel Vazquez vs.Algenis Mendez, 10 rounds, lightweights; Ryan Karl vs. Alfonso Olvera, 6 rounds, welterweights; Stephen Lovett vs. Kevin Engel, 8 rounds, cruiserweights; Justin Deloach vs. Todd Manuel, 6 rounds, junior middleweights; Ricky Edwards vs. Evincii Dixon, 6 rounds, junior welterweights; James Leija Jr. vs. Jonathan Heard, 4 rounds, junior welterweights; Tony Adeniran vs. TBA, 4 rounds, middleweights; Joseph Rodriguez vs. Jesus Sandoval, 6 rounds, lightweights; Cresencio Ramos vs. Cesar Martinez, 4 rounds, junior lightweights; Enrique Neira Jr. vs. Edward Tigs, 4 rounds, super middleweights; Daniel Baiz vs. Alberto Espinoza, 4 rounds, middleweights; Ramon Cardenas vs. Jaime Hernandez, 4 rounds, junior featherweights

PBC’s website has some good previews of the fights. First Jackson vs Uzcategui.

In 19 career fights, Julius Jackson has recorded 15 stoppages—including nine in a row. Jose Uzcategui owns 23 career victories, 19 of which have come by knockout.

Translation: Fight fans would be wise not to blink when the two bombers square off October 6 in a 168-pound battle in San Antonio, Texas…

Since turning pro in January 2009, Julius Jackson has been nothing short of perfect, compiling a 19-0 record in often-spectacular fashion. That includes a technical knockout of Jonathan Nelson in his most recent bout in December, during which the 6-foot-2 Jackson twice floored the then-once-beaten Nelson before stopping him in the ninth.

In Uzcategui, Jackson will be facing one of his toughest opponents to date. A Venezuela native who fights out of Tijuana, Mexico, Uzcategui has knocked out six of his last seven opponents. The only exception was then-unbeaten Matt Korobov, against whom Uzcategui lost a 10-round unanimous decision in June 2014.

And here’s the preview for Vazquez vs Mendez.

Vazquez began his pro career against current 154-pound champ Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, fought Alvarez a second time two years later and, in between, took a fight against current 147-pound titleholder Timothy Bradley Jr.

Meanwhile, Mendez’s résumé includes two bouts against former 130-pound champ and current 135-pound challenger Rances Barthelemy, and two fights against onetime 130-pound champ Juan Carlos Salgado.

Now, Vazquez (35-4-0, 13 KOs) and Mendez (22-3-1, 12 KOs) are set to display their toughness against one another when they square off Tuesday at Cowboys Dancehall in San Antonio, Texas.

Mendez, who earned a 130-pound title by knocking out Salgado in a rematch in March 2013, has been out of the ring since February, when he stopped Daviel Evangelista Jr. in the sixth round of a scheduled eight-rounder.

Prior to that, the 29-year-old Dominican Republic native who now fights out of Brooklyn, New York, faced Barthelemy in successive bouts, the first ending in a no decision and the second being a 12-round unanimous-decision loss.

The show is on Fox Sports 1 at 9 p.m. Let’s watch.
